thanks oeb what ive managed to do is remove barrel from seat lock remove four of the five slides leaving the retaining slide in,ive juggled the one slide to work with the ignition key which once its out is quite easy just put one of the four slides in then keep checking key got one near enough but had to file a little off the outside of barrel to allow to turn just a quick fix but works with key.i also tried removing lock from alley petrol cap but unable to remove lock so put it back together....

What I can remember is that you should ALWAYS have the key in the barrel when you remove it from either the seat latch or the petrol cap, if not all the tumblers will fall out leaving you with a very complicated jigsaw to reassemble. Seem to remember there being a small spring clip/key in the petrol cap that required depressing before the barrel (with key inserted) can be removed.

hi headcoats if you have a key that fits the barrel of seat lock i spoke to a locksmith today and he says place key in barrel with it removed from seat lock look for the slides which depress, what you are looking for is slides that depress all the way into barrell if any do not move as tempory measure remove these, the ones that move but still protrude get the file out and you will have a working lock not perfect but temp solution and anyway who would leave a £300.00 lid on there anyway.... ;D

loctite, thats how i was told to do this as well by a locksmith years ago. I also agree you shouldnt lock your lid to one of these, one snip thru the strap and its gone, and people can repair a strap.... Also if leaving your bike in a city dont lock your lid to the U lock either, Im not sure anyone would but years back my mates and I used to do that and one evening after many bars we came back to our bikes and my mate found his helmet had been crapped in... seems if you sit on a lid its the perfect bog... nice :/
