Drew, how i normally do it - is to fill with oil then removal surplus with a syringe until you get the required air gap from the top of stanchion to oil level - Haynes states 195mm +/-5.5mm - as far as i know this is correct, but someone else maybe able to confirm !.

That's what I think I'll do Paulo. But will take quite a bit more oil than stated in Haynes. Would the leg be extended or pushed down?

To check oil level/air gap remember that it is checked with the fork spring removed and the stanchion pushed right down inside the leg and measured from top of stanchion. Tone

Tone. That adds another variation because I'm sure in Haynes it says measure it with spring in.

Just had a look in the Genuine Yamaha Workshop manual for my LC2 and it says Fork oil level: From top of inner tube fully compressed Without spring. Tony

Drew, i have always done it as Tone has stated, spring removed then stanchion fully depressed - pump the stanchion a couple of times also to circulate the oil through the lower leg if the forks have been totally stripped and cleaned of oil. Dug out my LC Haynes manual, your right it tells you to fill / measure after fitting the spring, but my LC2 / YPVS Haynes tell you to fill / measure with spring removed / depressed fully and fork leg held vertical - this makes more sense and also when the spring is fitted, it normally sits proud to the top of the stanchion, so would make measuring difficult - hope I'm right, as thats how I've just re-filled my LC2 legs.
