Finally got a good set of NC35 wheels for my latest project & I wanted to get them anodized dark blue so went to A1 anodizing in Crawley & the geezer tells me most bike wheels are cast and the ali isn't a good enough quality to anodize my Aprilia OZ wheels are anodized & he says thats cos there good quality forged ones Bollocks really like the look of anodizing. So my question is does any one know of a company that specializes in wheel painting that I won't need to take out another morgage for. Not sure about powder coating, did that on my last build, makes the wheels look like plastic or any one got any better ideas.

Sounds like a fib to me, my RD50mx wheels were anodised from factory and the casting is well, shite. Had them powder coated in the end but i do agree they can look plastic like sometimes depending on the powder they use and what colour. These guys do some seriously trick stuff with powdercoating including a chrome colour, which in the flesh is very convincing www.aerocoat.net/Aeromaxtm.htm

For what little it's worth :-).. I much prefer the look of spray paint on frames engines and wheels. Powder never seems to look quite right to me.. everything looks 'dipped' in a paintvat..

there is alot of mixed opinions on powder coat ie it can look "plastic" is realy does depend on the material being used, quantity applied and of corse the skill of the operator. the firm i work for does alot of powder coating (not bikes any more) and ive seen some finishes that are as good as 2k paint and some that look very poor like thick plastic from a firm we used to sub work out too.,even very dry grainy finishes we use a powder primer, solvent base coat then a powder clear laquer so you get the best of both world with the colour choice from paint and durability from powder. im sure if you asked a decent powder coating firm they could apply a decent coat thats not overly thick which is what gives the "plastic" look. the cost does vary abit with powdercoat but it does seem you get what you pay for
