I have just received my new Yausa battery today and i would like to get this right as its my third battery in two years!! The battery is supplied dry with a bottle of battery acid and instructions. The instructions recommend diluting the battery acid with distilled water to achieve a specific gravity! Now, Im no chemist so could anyone instruct me on what to do (with due allowance for Health and Safety) in order to make this battery last a bit longer than the previous ones. Thanks.

I can't believe we are still using these prehistoric batteries, don't they make a gel battery that fits I use gel batteries on my deisel and both hybrids, far better and they pre filled, sealed & charged. It doesn't matter what angle they are fitted & you never have to top them up ;D

OK, To wrap this up i bought a battery hydometer to test the strength of the acid supplied with the battery and found it to be correct. I emptied the acid solution into the battery cells equally but found it to be insufficient to bring all cells up to the higher level indicated on the battery case. (about 3 to 4 mm short on each cell). However upon charging the battery i noticed the level rise to the correct level so all is ok and as it should be. Hope this helps other members.

trickle charge the battery,NOT on a high amp setting that you normally get on a car charger or you will shorten the life also batteries do not take well to being stored static when filled,if not using bike discharge with a 12v light and then trickle recharge this technique was used in subs to get the best out of the batteries, Blimey it must have taken a long time to discharge a submerine's batteries with a 12v bulb
