ok after a few more road tests and thoughts, this is what i have found, timing seems fine, as long as you dont use full throttle the bike will redline, i know this is not a good idea but it had to be tried. if you hold it at about 7.5k and then go straight to full throttle it just sort of stammers, roll it off a bit and it rev to redline. so i'm thinking mains obviously, but from as far as i can remember its got 190 mains in it which according to the manual are what it should have for a standard 250. should i try a drop to 180's? might try a plug chop on the way home tonight before i try jets though, just fancied some input from you guys first.

plugs are a lovely chocolate brown colour, just tried it with air filter foam removed, exactly the same, went up from 190 mains to 210 and its exactly the same, it will rev past 7.5 if you hold it open but it dont seem right.

all fixed today! well i say fixed there was nothing wrong with it, apart from a f**ked rev counter! spent all day removing my knackered clocks and fitting a vapor dash and surround i have left over what used to be on my rgv. went out for road test and when i came back the tell tale dash had recorded 8890k so that would seem about right for a stock engine. thanks for all the advice guys!
