Worth checking if it’s a genuine 350 / 4l0 model? Worth checking if it’s a import. Gav

If it was an import would that be bad news then?

It doesn't matter whether it's an import or not I have several 4LO's UK and German. I have restored a German bike to a very good standard and have been offered £4000 for it, (wouldn't part with it though ) So the "import" thing only matters to a few very anal people. The German bikes usually make an easier restoration as they don't use salt on the roads over there and all the original "Green parts" stay much fresher The only Down-side is a slightly more restrictive exhaust, (easily fixed). At the end of the day an LC is an LC no matter where it comes from ps: the bike in the ebay ad looks like a decent starting point but in my opinion, it's expensive for what it is.

Agreed Herb, when you look closely loads of stuffs shagged on it. For what your going to spend on that you may as well have a nice one.

1700 is a Bargain? 4000 ! for an LC.. Boggles my imagination. Here in Canada even a pristine one wouldn't likely achieve a 1700.. gbp equivalent Although the pound ...is.. seriously reduced these days.. Still? WHY!?? are UK people willing (eager even ) to pay so extravagantly for these ? Too rich? Although the pound ...is.. seriously diminishing these days.. Still? I have 2 of these things..wonder how much shipping to UK is ?.

Trouble is its £4000 for a bike thats essentially crap, good fun for sure but in a modern world hopelessly outclassed by just about everything else. Dont get me wrong i love whizzing round on my LC but im a realist about how good it isnt. I reckon 2 grand maybe 2500 tops for a great bike is about right. For £4000 id just buy an R1.

Well said Herb, after all they are all imports from Japan arn't they? I agree with the money pit thing as well just as you finish one thing you price the next part :-[an so on

I reckon all old bikes are money pits really, nos or repro bits cost money, then there is the time spent building or keeping them going. That Black LC doesn't look too bad, but it and most others will take the best part of that £4000 to get it how you want unfortunatly. Maybe more if you want it absolutly as out of the crate I bought a RD250 at 17 and haven't been without one in one form or another since, I've had loads of other bikes and have quite a few now, but racing my LC against 'modern' TZR's puts a bloody big grin on my face ;D Did a test trackday at Cadwell on Monday, didn't notice many people talking to the fellas on their GSXR/R1/CBR's but I had shedloads of folks asking about the LC and taking pics. It's that sort of bike, iconic in it's time and different now in an age of plastic and carbon fibre Yea, you've gotta love two strokes to want one, there are far better bikes to spend your 4 grand on, but there really isn't anything like an RD to put a big smile on your face

Good thread this, and yes i know what you mean about the smile, for me its a time machine back to the good old days of living at mums and paying next to nowt to live and earning even less...but having the best biking years of my life. New bikes dont realy do it for me, my early R1 is as new as i want to go, thats like the Ford Escort of motorcycling but its a good laugh.

All my m8s keep buying "the latest" tool.............but i just spent a bit of money on the suspension as i weigh f**k all and i dont see any of them leaving me behind on their latest model ;D The rd is fun coz u have to work it to keep it goin.............and u can wrag it without seriously losin ur licence And on our last trip out the gixer in front nearly got hit up the arse by me round the bend ;D

With you there, I've got an 03 Zx9R, old hat really but the best model bought it new for 6 Grand (divorce present to me!), no bugger gets past me on a ride out and has been thrashed to Spain and back a few times without missing a beat, it got written off when it was three months old so I bought it back for 1200 quid, spent 70 quid getting it back on the road ;D I've messed around with it a bit since then and it's now due another going over as it's looking a tad tired. Love it to bits, I've ridden late bikes, nice and all that, but I don't want to spend 10 grand on a road bike that really won't do anything better than the old Zed. Yea without a doubt ;D Never realised I was so lucky to be catching the end of the proper biking years . . . Bought a DRZ400SM a couple of years back as a commuter tool, couldn't resist the 0% finance whatafeckinglaugh, I've been bollocked by the boys in blue on that bike than any other I reckon, the 20min shouting for being on the pavement at Chiswick roundabout was the best

Guess for me the RD,s,from 50 up to 500 are all fun,you dont have to be doing 140 to enjoy them, yeh handlings "interesting"brakes kinda work but its the fun aspect that modern bikes just need silly speeds to achieve?? and the pose value is priceless...lol.lol

I sold my 2005 R6 last July and bought a 250LC which i rode for the first time this week after a long rebuild and i had more fun on it in 10 mins than i've had in years on a modern sportsbike. Hitting the powerband and the sound it makes just brings the memories flooding back and i just could not stop grinning. It's not running perfect yet but with some new parts for the carbs it should be fine and that's the fun bit for me being able to strip it down and rebuild it rather than it just sitting in the garage looking pretty.
