Hi all, I can finally start contributing and asking as i have found a ypvs to play with ;D Only problem is it doesn't run There is no spark at the plugs! Everything else electrical works, including the powervalve cycling when you turn the key, just no blooming spark. Probable causes please and easy checks would be wonderful. Also, what should the air gap be at the flywheel sensor please? Look forward to getting her running, then i can start to get her how i want her ;D Many thanks in advance, and look forward to finally start getting involved Attachments:

might sound silly but look all over the loom and connections for damage and/or corrosion first, ive repaired loads of bikes that just had a bad connection somewhere,if not check with new plugs then coils if not its cdi or the trigger. john

The bike has had a new "old stock" loom fitted, but as you say, i'll check all connections and give them a drop of WD40 just to be sure. Thanks. Gonna have a good poke about tonight, so anymore advice gratefully received before i end up wasting hours chasing what could be a simple check or fix?

Nice bike by the way . looks like a rebuil job. frame looks ver clean and the paint looks very good.
This is what i would do in this order : Look at fuzes replace main Fuze just to be on the safe side Disconect ingntion block and try if the same reconect Disconect kill switch and try if the same reconect join up the side stank switch wires. and remove switch and leave it that way swop HT coil for any 12V twin coul just to test . Get the stator plate behined the fly wheel tested . Chances are thats the problem but the other things you can do in 30 mins and do your self. If that tests ok and i dont think i will but if it does . then its the CDI. D

I fitted a new loom on my mates valvy could not get a spark so checked everything. Then started swapping bits of mine and still no spark. Turned out I had wired the kill swich wrong, I felt like a complete plonka, we were searching for the problem for 18 months on and off. So just turn the kill switch to off position and see if you have a spark.
You should of seen Dannys face when we finaly did get a spark and it burst into life after 3 years of rebuilding from boxes. Cant keep him away from it now.

Well, give yourselves a good pat on the back from me! Turned out to be a dodgy conection on the coil where it plugs to the loom. Took me about an hour of looking and tinkering then she fired into life!! Now just got to sort out the running, think the jets are way to small as it runs alot better with the choke out! Gonna pop out and pull a carb and draw up a list of bits that i require in a minute, get her the way i want her. Thanks again guys, and look forward to picking your brains again soon.
Hope your powervalve stocks are good Norbo, i'll be on the phone in the next couple of days!!
