Bit of a drawn out affair this
When i first finished the hybrid i used 250 jets to start with, this is ypvs engine, foam filters, premix and allspeeds.Had a read up on jetting and decided to go high and work down though it ran ok it looked a little lean on plugs.
Went to 290's and it ran fine but seemed down on power in the band though as i hadn't ridden one for years i thought maybe i was expecting too much.My tdr seemed loads faster though.
Anyway had a few short runs on it and it ran perfectly apart from the power issue always started first kick etc. This was upto last week.
Thought i'd go for a spin on Saturday and try sme smaller jets so put some 270s in.Kicked up fine, idled fine but when it got to 5k it lost all power and sounded strangled.I thought maybe some crap had got into the carbs so ended up stripping them 3 times but they were mint inside so put the 290's back in but still had the same problem. As everything was how it was the day before i thought it might be the coil so had a franctic ring round and managed to get a coil to try this morning.
It ran exactly the same so definately no problem with the coil.Checked stator and nothing seemed lose so though it fiddle with the carbs again.I must have stripped them 6 times trying different combinations of jets and needle heights but always the same problem.
Anyway was getting well pissed off listening to the bikes coming past and getting sunstroke so gave it one last run, same problem then bingo it cleared, shot off then died.Id forgot to turn the juice on for that run but guessed now it was flooding.
Re-stripped carbs, put smaller jets in,put different floats and float valves in,checked reeds and tried again,no change but if i turned the juice off it would fly just before i ran out.
By now my head was fooked and sunburnt and was going to give up for the day but decided to try needle clips again, put the clip on the highest setting and it cured it,went liek a good un in the band, bit fluffly at the bottom end but i guess that can be cured with the air screw.Couldn't test it much as it was gettign on and i had shorts on for the quick up road test runs.
This was the first time i had put the clip on the highest setting but could it make so much difference, from unridable to rideable when not even dropping 20 on the main made a difference.
After a day and a half of spannering this weekend i'm dam fast at carb stripping now though :)Sorry for the long story
