when the throttle is closed the marker is miles off the first notch and when the throttle is open it goes way past the dot and the dash, my bike always used to smoke on tick over and very badly when giving it some but i am just rebuilding it after having the frame done so want to get it right. The throttle cable is adjusted at both ends at the twist grip and going into the pump caseing to its minimum. forgetting about the cable is there a way of adjusting the actual pump or am i missing something? cheers

I had the same problem - cheap pattern cable. Ended up sawing out some of the adjusting nut to lengthen the inner and get the correct adjustment. Double check that the cable is sat down in the pulley groove too - the return spring has a locating "pip" on the end which pokes through into the groove and sometimes stops it seating correctly.

ok, i have checked it is seated correctly because when i saw how fat out it was i thought something must be wrong... which part do i need to saw off? Where the cable enters the oil pump casing, there is a locknut and a longer adjuster nut. I had to (carefully) take a 1/4" long ish section of the adjuster nut without catching the cable itself. This in effect lengthened the inner allowing the oil pump to be adjusted to its correct position. Mine was the same - marks were way out and this was the only way i could see of getting them to align. Double check this method will work before attacking your cable with a hacksaw.....................
