Disassembly nearly complete as documented in the What did you do to your RD/LC today thread. Scrubbed and split. Transmission looks good.

Nice job, but i'd be washing them in a bath of warm soapy water first to make sure every bit of blasting media is gone? Andy.

I agree with Andy, 'cleanliness is next to Godliness' is what my Gran used to say... defo the God of engines thats for sure. One well worth worshipping when you own 2 strokes lol
You might want to get Dusty to move this thread to the builds section?

I agree...After I make sure all the media is out. Next step is bake at 250 in the shop oven for an hour to get all the petroleum residue out of the metal. Then another acetone wipe down with a tack cloth and shoot some paint while it is still warm. Then, back in the oven at 200 for two hours

Nice job, but i'd be washing them in a bath of warm soapy water first to make sure every bit of blasting media is gone? Andy. And then wash them again, I washed and dried and airhosed my gpz casings for 2 weeks and im still worried I’ve missed a bit😬

On my last build the White RZ I bought a large metal hole saw and spent about 3 days drilling and shaping with a hand file and got a good job on the clutch cover window. And honestly I was dreading it this time around. I recently purchased some carbide Dremel cut-off wheels from Walmart of all places thier store brand and 45 minutes later all that is left to do is a little clean up with a half round hand file and it will be done. I can't believe how good this worked and very cheap as well. . It was tedious but easily accomplished by cutting out the center portion vertically and then shaving down the remainder. All this was done with one cutoff wheel with a flex shaft Dremel.

About 25 minutes with a half-round hand file and I am calling the window in the clutch cover done. Next step is to chase all the threaded holes, install bolts in them and it's off to my bead blast machine.

Do you not know someone with a mill & rotary table?

No I don't. I will look at it again. The edges are pretty much invisible once it is painted.

Top case is done. I have decided to leave this one unpainted since the cylinders are unpainted and the cool head is bright finished. I blew it off good and gave it a good bath with brake-kleen.

Nice job, but i'd be washing them in a bath of warm soapy water first to make sure every bit of blasting media is gone? Andy. Oh yes. I jet washed mine, airline, chased all the threads and yet when I put one of the final bolts in after everything was assembled, there was a crunch of media. Never again unless that finish is going to be left bare..

Not sure why they put 347 CCs on the 68 MM cylinders... Its so they look standard i think and if you grind off the athena logo then they could pass as oem banshee and maybe sneak past the scrutineers at the races.

Im pleased to see youve stored your spark plugs the right way up, ie so the sparks dont fall out... not many understand how to store these In other news, its good its all back together. Did you match the transfers?
