I GOT MY 1980 250LC OUT FROM ITS WINTER HIBERNATION LAST NIGHT & FIRED IT UP AFTER A COUPLE OF KICKS - NO PROBLEM PLENTY OF SMOKE BUT REDUCED AFTER A WHILE.
WENT FOR A RUN ROUND THE BLOCK & ON COMING BACK INTO GARAGE NOTICED OIL COMING OUT OF GEARBOX BREATHER 7 DRIPPING ONTO FLOOR.
OIL WAS CREAMY IN COLOUR SO I THOUGHT WATER GETTING INTO OIL BUT THE WATER LEVEL WAS OK
CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL IN GEARBOX & IT WAS WAY OVER FULL.
I KNOW THE LEVEL WAS OK WHEN LAST USED SERIOUSLY ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO!
DRAINED IT ALL OUT & THERE WAS WAY OVER 1500cc AS RECOMMENDED.
AUTO LUBE LEVEL WAS DOWN IN THE TANK BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER IF IT WAS FULL AT LAST USE.
CAN AUTO LUBE OIL FLOW THROUGH INTO THE ENGINE/GEARBOX WHILE BIKE IS PARKED UP AS THIS WOULD SEEM TO BE THE ONLY EXPLANATION?
IF SO IS THERE A FAULT IN THE PUMP?

Hi, If the two stroke oil is getting into the gearbox it is usually the oil seal on the pump drive that has failed. Easy fix but have to remove the clutch cover. Steve.

Creamy in colour is invariably due to water in the oil. When a Lot of water gets in there, the oil resembles Mayonaise. As above, a new water pump seal.. at least.

Thanks for the answers. I thought it was water at first but the water level hasn't dropped in the tank. it must be the seal in the pump drive as it is diffinitely oil in the gearbox. I've re-filled the gear box & going to run it for a week or so & keep an eye on the levels.

You don't need much water in there to make the oil go a creamy colour. My advice would be to change both the oil pump and water impeller seal, don't take long to do both in the same job.
