It was May 1980 and Dexys Midnight Runners were number one with Geno when I collected my brand new Silver RD250F from Westminster Motors in Chester (£1080 BTW). 4 years and 16,000 miles later I passed my car test and the RD was consigned to my Dad's garage until I got my own place and he dumped it on my driveway as he was sick of having to move it.
A little while later my neighbours lad saw it in my garage and asked me if I wanted to sell it. "Give me £150 and it's yours" I said and I've regretted that encounter, bitterly, for the past 20 years as, when I started using Ebay and saw the values of these bikes rise over the years, it came back to haunt me.
How it came to be that I managed to find the very same bike, now with a 400 engine fitted, 35 years later is a tale for another time as they say, but I am now the proud, happy and significantly poorer owner of my first love again.
I just need to get it running properly and I'll be 17 again - I wish!
I probably should have done this before I started begging help but, better late than never.....

Welcome in, it's a good place to be for RD nuts. Console yourself that if you assume the average cost of having a bike largely unused, let's say averages a minimum of £250 a year, so being without it for 40 years has saved you around £10,000. If you bought it back for say, £5,000, you're quids in and can consider it a bargain!
