will I be able to replace the red powervalve seals with the engine still in the bike with rad and exhausts removed. Or is it a engine out and head off job?

Proberbly gonna have to take the head and at least one barrel off as I dont think there's enough room between the power valves in the middle to get the seals out.

Thanks for the reply. If the head has to come off I was thinking of using an NK copper head gasket. Has anyone used one, are they as good or better than Yamaha gaskets?

I seem to remember I replaced the PV seals on my LC2 with the head in place and if I remember it was a bit of a fiddle but worth trying before you remove the head. Obviously you wll need to remove the connecting joint between the barrels to get to the two inner ones. Tone.

OEM yama head gasket.. IS.. reuseable... IF.. you don't damage it on removal. Use a spray type gasket sealant on it OR a Laquer spray paint on it as an inimtation of the OEM laquer coating.. After it has been meticulously cleaned. Copper has the IMO large(?) problem of aquiring all the surface imperfections of the mating surfaces , consequently it then needs a sealant for re-use. Not much advantage there.. is there?

Thanks for all the advice. It`s not that i`m too tight to buy a new gasket (not that I won`t reuse it if I can) It`s a case of just recently rebuilt and thought I could get away without replacing red seals and got found out. Didn`t want to pull it apart again but think it may be easier.

I,ve done it before years ago, just take the exhausts off and you should manage fine, mine had allen bolts on the retainer plates so had to cut an allen key down but done in an hour. Biggest pain is the 1/4 turn at a time on the bolts. Sometimes find that the holes in the barrells the bushes go in wear if the bushes have been moving back and forth. Clean them as best as possible and silicone around them sorts it. If after all that it still leaks chances are the bushes are worn, unfortunately about £30 each. Steve.
