Went for a blast on the local roads last night and the bike started to handle strange after landing on the road again. Where i live in Holland there is a nice stretch of road close to my house which is spoiled by speed bumps. The bumps are not too bad i would say a little lazy. Last night was really warm weather so i went out for a quick blast. I was really in the mood last night until my bike started acting all strange after hitting a speed bump. I drove home put the bike on the paddock stand. I lifted the back end up to see if i could feel any play in the rear suspension, to be honest it felt light and when i looked down the wheel was still on the ground. Strange thing was i never felt it snap.

That's bad news but on the plus side at least you know where the fault lies and you can sort it straight away rather than trying/fitting/adjusting parts that were ok

Bloody lucky it had the shock res to drop against. Never liked those ally height adjusters, have seen a couple fail like that in the past. Replace it with a steel one and you will be good to go.

I'm only looking at it on my phone and I'm outdoors at the mo so I can't make out from the photos what exactly has happened. Most important thing is that you are ok.

Looks like the bolt has sheared on the extension piece - below the nut on the extreme left of the pic, meaning the shock isn't bolted to the swingarm

Crikey. That could have been a whole lot worse…something made it stress crack obviously..
What material is the part made of?
I’d be interested to see all the bits when disassembled.
Glad nothing nasty happened to you as a result.

Damn!
Maybe a slight sideways misalignment could cause stress which would cause it to crack?

Bloody hell. I’m glad you didn’t come to any harm and that the bike survived. I look forward to the inquest as to what failed and the possible causes.

Thank you you all so much for your thoughts.
I never thought too much about and cursed a little because its more essential (Motorbike) work to do and i need to make more time for this and other things, but everyone's comment has made me realise that i was very lucky indeed. As mentioned above my luck was me fitting the shock upside down to begin with.

That you're unharmed is the main thing, if you were a cat, that's one of your nine lives spent, but a very worthwhile spend it was too

Bloody hell. I’m glad you didn’t come to any harm and that the bike survived. I look forward to the inquest as to what failed and the possible causes. Yes after speaking to Kees about it yesterday he reminded me it was acting a bit strange at the Rockanje Classic and i adjusted the tyre pressure. It was a cold wet day so i reduced the tyre pressures to get more heat in them. Then after the first session Kees came back complaining it was a bit loose on the back. After putting more pressure in he said it was ok. Before that last September i used it at a fantastic circuit called Mas Du Clos. Everything was good then except a strange wear pattern on one side.
So the history is as follows;
1) Strange wear pattern on left side of the rear tyre. Mas Du Clos circuit O9-2023
2) Kees commenting it was a bit loose on the rear. Rockanje Classic TT (fixed by adjusting tyre pressure.) Almost forgot also one gentle bimble the day after at the DGR trip. 05-2024.
4) Fat boy riding it hard on the road an then feeling it go a bit wobbly on the back end after jumping a speed bump. 07-2024
Between times 1 & 2 the bike has been ridden up and down the road to check brakes and carbouration are good after maintenance plus spanners on the rear shock linkage after seeing strange wear pattern. (check only, nothing loose and no play)
This bike will be stripped down and repaired. Its also been my test bike for parts i add to the Bakker 443.
