Hello, following a post (or was it a thread?) elsewhere about an M-shock for my build, as a newbie here, it was suggested I stick my build on here, so here goes..
It is a '93 RD350R, bought running, but a bit scruffy, from a mate. The deal clincher was it came with an Aprilia RS 250 front end and back wheel, and an RGV P swingarm accumulated by my mate, but not fitted. It was a purchase of opportunity to scratch a long held YPVS itch - I've had 4L0s and TZR and TDR 250s previously, but never a YPVS. It remained untouched for a few years, barring accumulating some bits and pieces and dabbling when I could. The build started seriously last autumn, to the point you see below. It has the RS 250 front end fitted with a one off top yoke, swing arm wheel and back brake fitted with an NK racing kit, major components powder coated, forks refurbished (stanchions rechromed, sliders re anodised etc) brake calipers stripped and cerakoted. Paintwork has been done, but is all boxed up, so pictures to follow sometime.
I don't think it's pushing the boundaries engineering or spec wise, but that wasn't the aim, I just want a tidy YPVS hydrid to wazz about on .
Major folks used so far: Triple S - powder coating / Factory coating - fork anodising / Philpotts - stanchions rechroming / Cerakote Up North - brake cerakote / Dumfries Vapour Blast - bits and pieces coated / Norbo - important bits and pieces / Able Platers - fastener zinc coating
Current jobs - finish lock stops, fit up standard footrests without shortening them, build brake calipers
The elephant in the room is the engine, which is stripped and seems like all is in order (standard bores within spec) so I'm currently pondering the 'do I get the crank rebuilt and build it myself, or farm it out' decision. No rush really while I wait on funds accumulating for that work.
Anyway, thanks for having me on the forum. Happy I finally got my finger out and got onto it!
After much faffing about with Flickr, see below a selection of photos.
