YZFR125/MT125 swing arm/wheel question

Hi chaps, different direction type question, have you or anyone else you know of ever fit a different rear wheel in a YZFR125 swing arm on a hybrid? I have just about finished mine for now, going to ride it and enjoy it for the summer but I cannot get past the look of the single disc on the front! Looking at different front end options come september but I kind of like the swing arm and was wondering if I could find a 17 rear in 3 spoke that won't be beyond my, limited, skills to swap out. I'm thinking maybe fazer 600 front end. I figured if anyone would have a chance of knowing or a good idea it'd be you chaps!

Not sure quite what you mean. What front end are you using now and why are you asking about changing the rear wheel? I take it this is on an LC...if so a modern single disc is more than enough to stop it. Some say it should have 2 for symmetry but that extra disc needs a caliper and it adds weight!

If I'm reading it right you have a hybrid with yzfr125 front and rear ends but you don't like the single front disc

Once you start swapping a different rear wheel into the yzf arm you have the difficulty of chain run, rear spindle size and rear brake, disc, caliper bracket set up

I've used a good few Fazer front ends now, they go on with the stem shortened and new lock stops sorted out. From memory the stem is 20mm too long

Front wheel is 17 x 3.00 and the front muddy is quite in fitting with the old RD

The difficulty is finding a similar pattern that's not got a 5 inch rim

I only found xjr400 and late srx 400 which had a 17mm spindle (some are 20mm) and 17 x 4.00 rim

No idea how that would go into a yzf swinger

It may be easier to use Fazer fork and an rgv or bandit 400 front wheel (17x3.00) but you will have wheel spacers and maybe disc spacers to make it work

That would allow a bandit 400 (17x4.00) or GS500 (17x3.50) with 17mm spindle

Either way it will require some engineering if not using the original wheels in forks/swinger

Thanks guys, yeah I was a bit vague there! It's an F2 Hybrid with the 125 front and rear end, all works nicely but as I said its the single disc look that is bothering me. Maybe I will try live with it a bit longer, see if it grows on me.

i have an f2 with the YZF125 swinger but like yourself i wanted a cemetric look for the front so i just went forward with a complet R1 front

lot of money put into it so something to concider

My LC has a Mito front end. One disc. It's overbraked. And the single disc looks doesn't bother me at all....plus there's the weight saving. Remember Colin Chapman...'simplify, then add lightness.'
