Almost certainly they are, in fact, they're already here, in huge numbers. Count up how many MG's and Polestars you see out on the roads, they're a very common sight.
I also visit Spain fairly regularly, and there are many many Chinese manufactured cars over there, brands such as BYD have gained significant market share over the last 3 years. It is fair to assume this situation is similar in other European Countries.
In Russia, the sudden exit of Western car companies (intended to decimate the car market over there and end mobility of the Russian people) has served only to provide China with instant market demand. Chinese manufaturers now account for almost 50% of the Russian car market and in 2023, sold almost half a million cars there. Geely and Chery have re-opended dealerships that were previously branded BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and are selling and servicing their own cars from those premises.
Most of us here will remember the phrase "J@p cr@p" during the late 60's and early 70's. Well look how that turned out.....

What worries me is that I had no idea Polestar were Chinese. The ad even says it's a Volvo. Blatant lies then. This doesn't affect me as I'd never buy an electric car but some people really think they are buying a Volvo...or wose yet (inward shudder) an 'MG'.

Alex Geely bought Volvo in 2010 and transformed Polestar to a full EV brand in 2017. Geely also own, or have a controlling stake, in the van company LDV, Colin Chapmans old company Lotus, the ex. Mercedes brand Smart, the old Malaysian brand Proton and Benelli motorcycles. Nanjing Automobile Group bought the MG brand in 2007. Zhongneng Vehicle Group own Moto Morini. KTM, Harley Davidson, MV Agusta and BMW all have close ties and collaborate with companies in China. "Are the Chinese really coming"? Oh yes, you bet......

Scary. I still wonder how many people would buy a car if it had a Chinese name on it.

Scary. I still wonder how many people would buy a car if it had a Chinese name on it. Alex Not long ago there were people who would not entertain anything with a Japanese name... And yes they are coming and it bothers me not the slightest!! I rode a "Jap crap".... it was dammed use full for ferrying broken down shitpot riders

It's not the 'Jap Crap' syndrome I'm worried about. It's the Chinese communist ways and the mass genocide I'm more concerned about. But maybe the youngsters either aren't bothered about that or don't even realise it's happening.
By the way...has anyone else seen an electric car in the High Street charging away and been SO tempted to unplug it?

Alex Depends on the charger I plugged mine in to a council owned charger down at my holiday home. Plugged it in, simple contactless bank card to start the charge As I was walking away there was a button on the touch screen "stop charging" I thought surely not, any fecker could just walk by and press that Came back 40 mins and 27kw later, pressed the button and sure enough it stopped charging WTF Most need you to tap your card again to stop As an aside while charging you can't unplug them, there is a locking mechanism that stops the plug bing taken out It's a safety thing considering they can be pushing 300a Steve

Surely there should be an emergency stop button on the charger incase you see smoke.... Maybe you need a "app" for an emergency stop... as it seems everything is controled by one of them. I am excluded from owning an ev..... thank ****

If China decided not to trade with the UK we would be fecked. Nearly everything from tech to household items is made there. As stated, they aren't coming, there already here
