I bought (well actually my Dad bought it for me when we got our first house in 1993) a Hayter Harrier with a Briggs & Stratton motor. It is still going strong today and have de-coked it a couple of times during the last 31 years..

Bought my first petrol mower π Just did first start up π Steve We moved to a house with a much bigger lawn than the last one so I bought a Honda Izzy four stroke mower. That was nine years ago. I should maybe start to think about changing the oil in it soon It runs a lot smoother on E5 than E10 petrol. I found this out by chance after putting a drop of E10 in it that was left in a can. I've never noticed any difference running the VFR800 on E5 or E10

I didn't dare run it on e10 even though it said it was OK
Accidentally filled my works car up with super and accidentally spilled some into a can π€£

I also find it strange that they say the engines are supplied dry so sell you 1L of "mower oil"
They don't tell you that it's actually got some oil in it, it's standard 10w30, the oil capacity is only 500ml and it only took 200ml to get it to the correct level
By the time I need to change the oil the stuff in the bottle will be too old to use βΉοΈ

Amazing stuffβ¦.. and Iβll refrain from saying anything further on the effects it can haveβ¦ I just realised I got them the wrong was around. It's E5 not E10 it runs smoother on. The revs were going up and down all the time on E5. It did it all the time once it had warmed up and the choke had gone off. When I put E5 in the revs stabilised. Lynx Africa doesn't prevent sweating I know that much. Just makes your pits smell of some unidentified fragrance for a couple of hours. In fairness I don't think it claims to prevent sweat or smell, just masks it with perfume. At my age I wouldn't want un-invited attention from females. Thankfully it doesn't do that bit either. It's 'Sure' for me. Yours seems a much more worthwhile use of Lynx. Do other varieties of Lynx work as well or does it have to be 'Africa'? Just a suggestion, keep your armpits clear of naked flames.

I would be happier stripping my R1 engine than the Izy. I tilted it on it's side once by about 45Β° to put a drive belt back on and the air filter became soaked in engine oil. It wouldn't start and when it did it coughed and farted and smoked like a Elsie Tanner for 20 minutes until it cleared. Apparently you can tilt it one way but not the other way.

Ive yet to see a photo in this thread... do you Mower Fanciers just talk about these demon machines and not show them off in case someone finds out?
Most Aussies would tell you 10 years back that all garden tools should be petrol. But in 2024 many now have electric stuff. I have 4 chainsaws, 3x 2T and 1 battery... which one do i use the most? er.... Same with my hedge trimmer (1 of each, 2T and batt)... Luckily for me I got rid of my lawn and no need for a whipper snipper, thats a strimmer for you Poms lol
I do have a 4T pressure washer... I bought it cos it had a Honda engine... I know, I know... but you surely cant pass up a deal on a Honda small 4 stroke for jobs like that... until i later read it was the worst engine Honda had ever made. Ahh... It also doesnt like to be tipped... the oil comes out like your mowers do. What a debacle. It does have some power tho for a domestic unit at least.
FWIW One of my neighbours here has a 2 stroke mower... its really really loud lol

This year the strimmer has decided it needs a good ten minutes and at least 20 good hard pulls (ooh, Madam ) before it will think about starting. I have two other powered garden tools and they are 2T also. Couldn't be ar$ed to get them down from the garage roof for pictures. All ran on Optima Racing. It's just what I have in the garage. Oh and the yellow in the top left of the first photo is the Sun. Just in case anyone did'nt recognise it. Anyone in the UK anyway.
