Owing to my inexperience on the Yams I have got into a position where I'm unsure. I'd had the barrels off to fix damage in the barrel from a stud and putting them on again I got into a tizzy with the half clamps on the YPVS shafts between the cylinders. Is it correct for the valves in each cylinder to be aligned and clamped in the same position not out of phase like the pistons?

Valves should be at the same height regardless of piston position

Yes, because it's based on rpm? Many thanks

Yes correct, position is based on rpm and they don’t oscillate or reciprocate… just move to provide variable exhausts port timing.

Check for play / wear and also that they are perfectly aligned when wide open.

Inspect the ends where the clamp goes, they should both be a D shape when viewed from the end but the flat part wears, one side becomes rounded off and causes all sorts of bother.
If they're both still good, a new centre clamp should sort it.
