Please can I get the forum view on front ends for a YPVS hybrid? A common topic I know but still new to me.
I already have the YPVS frame and an RGV VJ22 swing arm and back wheel, now need the front forks, wheel and brakes.
I am tempted down the RGV VJ22 route, because it will match, its been done before and fits the size of the YPVS, and there are plenty of performance upgrades available. However, they seem to be as rare as hens teeth now and priced accordingly.
I see RGV forks available but you still have to add the yokes, brakes, calipers etc
600cc forks seem too big(?) so you are left with 250 or 400cc options.....
Does anyone have a good suggestion of a compatible front end that will match the Suzuki RGV rear? Or know of a RGV VJ22 front end for a reasonable sale?
Many thanks Robert

Hi Robert
I've used 600 forks a few times and are fine. They actually work well. A lot of RWU 41mm forks around

Have you considered the earlier Rgv forks (Vj21) ? Right way up but use the same 17" front wheel as the Vj22. Also, look at Nissin calipers - generally regarded as better than the standard Tokico's anyway. First generation Hyabusa Nissins bolt straight onto Vj21 and 22 forks. The other benefit of the Vj21 forks are they are slimmer - 41mm if my memory serves, so you get slightly better steering lock coz they don't clout the tank so easily. I fitted a Vj21 front end on the Cafe build; 20190426_220849 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20190831_093301 by dusty miller, on Flickr

Added bonus is they keep the spoke pattern the same between front and rear wheels. There are at least 3 decent looking pairs on ebay at the mo - far cheaper than Vj22. Adding the cost of a muddie and yokes will soon make it a spendy mod, but you need those parts for any front end. I think Vj21 will still be cheaper in the long run over Vj22. I think I still have a dismantled pair down the shed, plus a 3 spoke Suzuki wheel that isn't Rgv but may fit ?

Is that the 18" rear wheel Steve ? Yes, it's an 18. The perspective in the picture makes it look bigger than it is but to be honest I liked the look I'd picked up a vj21 rolling chassis for £180 many years ago so just used the lot Was the days when you could still get a decent 140 18 inch radial tyre Steve

I've got the 18" in my Cafe bike. As you say, tyres are getting harder to source.

I've got the 18" in my Cafe bike. As you say, tyres are getting harder to source. I used a BT090 on the front and a BT92 on the rear as I didn't want it to square off quickly BT92 is discontinued now but they are now making the BT50 rear to go with the BT090 front Currently the BT50 is only available in 140/60 18 so looks like they are catering for the 90's sports bikes Steve

KR1S rear wheel is 18 inch and takes the 140/60/18 tyre too

Different spoke pattern though. Even the 3 spoke Kr1 is different with a straight spoke rather than the swept Rgv style

It may depend on what you can physically get.
Essentially the OE front end is really spindly, so a lot of conventional or USD front ends could be made to work.
I've use a mix bag of bits: ZXR6 Forks with softer K Tech internals, GSXR400 wheel to take a 120/70 tyre, MTO9 calipers & custom Yokes.
Depends if you have a look in mind? I really like the Gold CBR 600 RR front end and would look to use that if I were to do it again.

Many thanks everyone for the replies - I will definitely check out the VJ21 option.... I’ve just picked up a nice VJ21 front end up of eBay for my forthcoming build still a few more nice sets of forks on there and it’s a lot cheaper option than the vj22 route especially if you want to keep with RWU forks

A set of early R6 (right way up) forks gives you a nice comfy ride which i like on my road bike, Plus i found out early R1 upside down forks will bolt straight in. Never used them, so can't comment on how good that set up is.
