What's going on with car insurance?
Just renewing mine, been with Churchill for the last 2 years, same car, same address, same everything, first years policy was £371, second was £312 and this years is £438 (still cheaper than anywhere else after a go.compare check).
Seems they just pluck a number out of the air to me......
Daft thing is, on the go.compare check, Churchil were one of the list of insurers who wouldn't provide a quote!

I think you're right about thin air. If you phone up to query that £438 they'll put you on hold for five minutes, then come back to you saying they can do it for £390!
The times I've asked in the past;
Why wasn't the renewal £390??

The times I've asked in the past; Why wasn't the renewal £390?? Yep, I always try that and it usually works out but this afternoon, it's a no. £438 it is and that's it. The go.compare search this morning found only one provider which was cheaper, £15 cheaper. I just did the same and the cheapest is now £14 more expensive! Bonus is, I can now renew this one at a 40% higher price than last year knowing it's the lowest price available!

Landrover owners are being refused insurance or being quoted £2000 plus. Think their issue is related to keyless entry and lack of security. At the end of the day, someone's got to pay for all the claims, scammers etc... www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/range-rover-thefts

Arent they also one of the most unreliable cars out there? Seems like they should be stealing something more useful for the local market? That said, I see thefts of Kia and Hyundai are up in the UK now...

I've worked at the all the JLR factories and the cars are predominantly built by agency staff who don't give a flying fig how they work. Very sad, but isn't that the way the UK car industry works. They need to take a leaf out of the German manufacturers. I've worked at Bentley (German owned) and they are very different, although so is the price tag

Land Rovers...piggin awful. Many years ago in Australia LR had a 95% share in the 4x4 market as nothing else would compete. Then Toyota introduced the Land Cruiser and in a few years they had 95%. Once you go Jap etc...

I loved my Chevette
Was an 82 on a Y plate. Must have been 1989. No rust and not welded, must of had a good one
My 83 Y plate Astra was a different story. Rusty and welded.
Couldn't complain as I bought it as a clearance trade in for £300 as the water pump bearing had gone
Ran fine for a year while I spent on it changing wings and sills then turned into a right pain when it developed the habit of running fine when you were fault finding on it but waiting till you were 5 miles away and dying on its ass
Limp it home cutting out then refusing to start then running like crap for a few minutes before dying again
Get it home, get the tools out, would run like a dream 😤

The times I've asked in the past; Why wasn't the renewal £390?? It's what I call lazy tax. If someone is too lazy to make some enquiries then they'll pay the higher premium. Lazy Tax. It's on a lot of things. Even the amount you might get from The Redundancy Payment Service. In their case it meant a stack of emails from me and an Employment Tribunal but I ended up getting a £1000 more out of them. If I couldn't be bothered, like the other 9 people who were owed more, I'd receive £1000 less.

one big driver on costs is the electric cars as well, claims because of fires in garages that then burn the house down are on the rise, it actually costs more to insure your electric car if you put it in the garage over night and charge it ! - plus all these "keyless" stupid cars which are a peice of pish to steal - bleeding modern rubbish made by idiots who think electronic gizmo's are unfallible

Or perhaps I'm getting older and grumpier!

The outback is full of Landcruisers... the yuppy parts of the cities are full of LandRovers (and Rangies)... Go figure We still get the 70 and 80 series Landcruisers here, they are the 'last of the V8s...'...
