Looking to build a special with more power than a standard powervalve. Like the idea of either the Athena or Cheetah kits. Anyone recommend where to buy the kits from. Not sure how far to go power wise. Obviously want to balance performance boost with retained reliability. Any thoughts from the experts out there?

How deep are your pockets!
The world is your oyster, look up banshee tuning, massive development in them, and it's basically the same engine.
Stroker cranks, big bore cylinders, ignition upgrades, some nice hydroformed expansion chambers, vforce reeds, big carbs, ect ect
Someone like Muttsnuts, could build you whatever you want, or supply you the parts, it's all about price.

Where do you live?
That will dictate who you should talk to and where to buy from.
Then look at what you want and how you will use it, ie road/race etc.
You can also decide on how much power etc etc
Then work out what parts you need to get what you want.
I wrote a primer on big bore kits 10 years back and its still on the wayback version of my old site I expect if you wanted to search for it.

Norbo stocks some big bore stuff. Mutts Nuts on here also has stuff. MBD is another UK supplier.

Local fella has got 70bhp out of a set of 350 ypvs barrels, tuned by Mick Abbey with TSA pipes and 34mm tmx carbs, billet manifolds.
That's what I would be looking at 😜

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the sound of a bigger bore non powervalve conversion. Basically love the rush of the 4lo but want something a bit saucy. Not after 100+ hp monster. Something that is mad enough but not going to need a rebuild every 5 minutes. Is a 392cc banshee top end a good option or is it worth going down the stroker crank route say to 421cc? At what point on the power increase journey do you have to move from the standard clutch, gearbox, radiator, carbs?

If you are going to go to the bother of doing it you have to go +4 and 421 as a minimum
Good midrange tune should make it nice and grunty and not be flat until the power comes in

current 421 Athena builds I am doing are designed/targetting good bottom and mid range, peaking around the 8500 to 9000rpm so not killing the crank and pushing mid to high 80's, if I think on I can dig out some dyno charts if you are interested, if you look at Tez's recently finished build, his has my latest pipes and setup on it and he loves it --> rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/60464/rd392lc-finished?page=1&scrollTo=604757421 Athena Graph 392cc Athena Graph

These cylinders with plated barrels, there aren't many places that repair them ,so having 70bhp tuned ypvs barrels they can be rebored the conventional way
