I've been sitting on my arse a lot while my kneecap pulls itself together, so I did a write up of what I did to the bike. I thought I'd give it to the new owner when I sold it so they could see what's gone into it. It's not finished yet because I haven't finished the bike yet.
What do people reckon? Useful? Selling point? Pointless? Never seen it done before.

Thats excellent, well done. Just two things I picked up on;
1, The engine won't run lean with extra oil from the pump, as this won't change the fuel/air mixture, (on premix it will).
2, Your cat is identical to mine.

No 2 - selling point.
Showing a bike has been properly put together is a good selling point. As is proving it was put together by someone reputable, without the detail.
I like to think anyone who has bought a scooter or bike off me will know my builds are built properly, as I refuse to bodge anything?

Excellent idea! Certainly adds a premium when it comes to sale time.

I agree, a great thing to add to a bike's history. When I sell mine I usually add a link to the build thread I do that is on the forum. The guy that bought my 400 hybrid read the whole thread on here before he even came to view the bike, as I sent him the link. Producing all the receipts is always a good move too of course

Cool, thanks for the info. I've updated it. It's possible that our cats are quantum-entangled. Is yours sleeping on the sofa right now like mine? Is she also very annoying but so cute she gets away with it?

I forgot there was a board on here for builds. I'll write up the next one on here too.

I enjoyed reading that. A bit like a horror novel. One of my favourite bits is the front wheel bearing under the speedo drive, oh and the back wheels lack of spacers. Who the hell would do that? Do you know who did the 'work' (inverted commas don't actually seem enough) They should have their tools destroyed, be banned from buying any more and just to make sure, have their fingers amputated without anaesthetic. Maybe sent to prison as well. I also have a cat identical to yours. She's sulking because it's raining (yes it is really) and she doesn't like going out in the rain.

She must never go out Steve, it's always raining in Hull! Andy. Nah not true Andy, I remember one day back in July when the sun came out. It was just before I set off on my Lands End to John O Groats trip. The long haired one goes out more. I think it's because it's a while before the rain gets through the fur to her skin and she realises it's raining. All the fields around here look more like lakes.

Maybe sent to prison as well. I think it's the result of the bike being owned by a series of bodgers over the past few decades. I can't believe one person could do that much damage. The tools that were most used on it seem to be a hammer and chisel.
Beautiful mogs, but I'm beginning to suspect they are all the same cat. Has anyone ever seen them together in the same room?

She doesn't care that Lily is already laid there, she's still going to lay there. It's not a show of affection. It's a show of defiance

It could even be a 'professional' (someone who takes money in return for work on a motorcycle and not Bodie or Doyle). I have witnessed some bodges done in return for money. The chain on my VFR cut to length using a slitting disc and partially cut through the adjacent links as well. That was one. We set off from our house where the cats were in the garden. We then saw one identical to ours just disappearing into the bushes about two miles up the road from us and the Mrs. said "is that Lily"? I'm not sure what the average movement speed of a cat is but I'm sure it's less than I drive my car (maybe not leaving work at 5 o'clock, granted).

The 350LC I got just before lock down was last rebuilt by a Bike Shop. The clutch nut was finger tight, the tab washer had BOTH tabs locked onto the nut, making it useless. The kick start idler gear had the wrong washers, the clip came of with finger pressure as the circlip groove was chewed away. The idler gear would undoubtedly have made a bid for freedom before very long. New gear shaft needed to sort that . I was told it needed a complete rebuild, but the barrels would be good as the Bike shop had supplied and fitted some "good" second hand barrels and pistons just before it was laid up. Barrels where completely knackered and needed re-lining. Several of the M6 threads where stripped and needed helicoiling. The grease used in the steering head and everywhere else was dark brown and had set solid. I think the only bearings that I did not replace are in the Speedo and Tacho. Been running fine for the last 3,000 miles now.

I'm sure there are loads of examples out there.
I knew a couple of lads that worked in a local bike shop back in the early 80's. I remember watching one of them fitting a chain and sprocket kit to a bike. Remove the cover, remove the chain and sprockets and fit the new set. Re-fit the cover. I don't know about anyone else but I would spend however long it took to remove every last trace of old chain lube from everything before I even thought about fitting the new stuff. That would easily take longer than the actual fitting of the kit. If you do it for a living they're not going to pay you all that extra time and they're not going to charge the customer.
That's the difference. That's why I could have never done it for a living. Too much pride in the job.
My R1 had a couple of M6 set screws in the bottom of the sump when I stripped it. It also had at least two bolts/screws re-used that were supposed to be single use. It had been re-built by a bike shop owned by an ex-BSB rider or whatever BSB was called back in the 80's/90's.
