I'm far more likely to buy one now than I would have been in the late 70's or 80's but it would have to be mint for £500 and come with a 5 year warranty. The most popular names for them were Superscream and Wetdream. My mates brother had one. My first thoughts when I saw it were; 'wow, that looks great' and 'what a huge motorbike'. I went on the back of it once and I was struggling to hang on with the awesome acceleration. I was 15 at the time and I've learned a lot since then. I remember some numbers associated with that bike; it was £900.00 cash new but cost him £1,200 on Hire Purchase and was probably worth £200 when it was paid off. That made me decide not to buy a bike on HP despite mates trying to talk me into it. I saved up and bought a Fizzy. Another mate swapped his RD400E or F for the 400 version because he was shortly going to be out of work and heard they did much better MPG and were just as fast as the Yam. He endured the torture of riding it for a while but after a couple of months sold it and bought a 350LC. He said it was difficult staying awake long enough to get where he was supposed to be going. I guess the writing was on the wall all along, on the 400E he would turn out of his street then pop it up on the back wheel for 50 yards. He was never going to be happy on a Wet Dream.

Well some one bought it, all they need is a top box and a pair of derri boots. Awful bikes, I’d rather an MZ.

Back in mid 80s I worked the bar at a local UK nightclub, the biggest in the city and we had a lot of staff. I learnt early on that some very strange characters work clubs. Not least as for some its their only job and theyre just getting some extra readies but others really need the job to make ends meet etc. One lad we had was very full of himself and would tell everyone that would listen how he owned his own house and a brand new bike and a brand new car. Doing the extra job(s) like this one meant he could 'have it all'. All very 80's Thatcher's Children of course. We would all have been a bit in awe of him, but he was a bit of a knob with it sadly. One day someone quizzed him about his car... it was a brand new Skoda Estelle. The assembled crowd went a bit quiet as the way he talked you'd have thought it was a Jag lol. I quickly asked about his bike and it turned out that it was an MZ250. Of course his 'house' turned out to be a small flat in a not great part of town. People tended to not listen to him as much after that, lol... but i guess we all missed the point... in the same timeframe I owned the flip 400 wetdream, mentioned before, which cost me 50 quid or something and borrowed my mums car, I wasnt exactly Gordon Gecko... none of us were it seemed. These days (and then) the MZ would be more fun than the 'dream... the dream cant run backwards for a start!

These days (and then) the MZ would be more fun than the 'dream... the dream cant run backwards for a start! We described people that were always keen to talk about what they had in money and possession terms as Bread Heads. I did a few site jobs in Huntington Cambridgeshire and Sandhurst and there seemed to be large percentage would like to tell you about what their flat and car was worth. Again, back in the early 90's. A guy I worked with was complaining about being skint. He was a biker and we got to talking about our bike and car history. I said I had only ever bought one vehicle brand new, a 350LC in 1982 (if you're going to do it, do it right ). I had two cars that had been hand-me downs and was complaining that I actually had to buy one once. He said between himself and his wife they had only ever had one vehicle that wasn't brand new. Ah, I said, that could be your problem . He was also from the south, Lincolnshire I've had a few bikes for £50 or less. It was always the going rate for a ride to work bike.
