Chaps & Chapess`s, I know there is a dedicated post for Key Exchange but have a silly question to ask.
I have a B key B13213 i think ? it looks to have a faint crack in it and dont want it shearing off in a tank cap that it fits .
of the three numbers in my combo is the "1" the shallowest cut ? and the "3" my deepest cut ?
here`s what i wondered if i could get a similar key with smaller numbers could i get an original black plastic head job recut ?

Afternoon
Technically yes if you could find a very similar key with no higher numbers
Getting someone to cut it is another thing
I have some blank genuine keys that are the correct style for my 31k. Asked a couple of the usual "chain" key cutting places and both refused saying they would only cut a key they supplied ☹️

It's more of a faff but I'd probably go for re-tumbling the lock(s).
It's less risk than the recut and potentially trashing of the original key👍

I have had the above done but slightly different
I was building a concourse 86 N model and had a new lock set
I had another used lockset with the correct age key so I had the lock barrels changed
My other usual thing to do is buy a oetrol cap with the correct key then have the ignition and seat lock matched to it
Easiest solution is to get a pattern key cut for daily use and keep the "correct" one stashed

Its easy to rekey, just fiddly. Lots of info on how to do that on here and even youtube. In one of the other keys threads it shows the different key types of the era - A>F. Only downside is that I dont think anyone has put in there what fits what, ie not all key shapes fit the other locks. you can see that in the pics tho. Get the right blank (I thnk part nos in that thread) and find a smaller lock smith not a big chain to do the cutting. Ive had loads done. Else, buy a B key for a rekey. Hot tip is that many of the more recent seat locks sold are Bs. Im pretty sure i posted the part number of a cheap enough helmet lock that I bought a few of from CMSNL and they were all B. you get 2 brand new B's in that lock set. Use those. If you get that lockset and dont get B keys, I'll swap the lock set with you Found the part no for you : 5T4F1-398-00 www.cmsnl.com/products/hangerhelmet_5t4f139800/
