Is my bike at risk of overheating because I've polished the crank cases, head and barrell? I had some bloke say it was, but I think he's talking shit! ![](http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq359/carloswaldini/DSC00647.jpg)

Well, i know how hot my F2 gets with standard finish, if you would like to do the same to my cases, i could then do a back to back test !! (in the interest of science of course). Seriously though.....1st off, they look totally stunning mate, and 2nd, that bloke is as you suspected talking bo**ocks, every motor & motorcycle manufacturer has used all sorts of finishes over the decades and none of them have made a blind bit of difference to performance, durability, or reliability. Those cases are gonna look spankin' in the frame mate. Just noticed you're in kent, where abouts.

Looks cool as beans mate, as said before, you won't have any issues with temperature just because you have shiny cases, mirror finishes are used primarily to reflect heat and not absorb it. I'm trying to think of the name of an alloy cleaner i used on my BSA a while ago, it was fantastic to use, really good at taking all the tarnish out of alloy and kept it really bright for months without re-applying (i'll remember it sooner or later) Top job on the motor, always was a sucker for shiny things ! Soon as the weather / roads improve a bit, i'll take a trip down to your neck of the woods & have a gander at your ride if thats cool with you, i'm only just outside canterbury.

The Funniest thing is the number of heads it turns!
My favorite day was in Rye when Mellow recognised me because of my bike!

125's can run hot they only have half a rad after all . I have allso been toled that very polished barrels dont disperse the heat as well as black and this is correct becourse i know that house rads if black give of more heat then white one thats a fack . seen it on TV program about heat dispersment. so id say there was some merit with everything beeing polished it may well run a bit hotter . You can fit a snall fan behined the rad and hook it up to a live feed that will do the job and any brakers will have one . You need a small one from a big 4 stroke oil rad

Well, it hasn't overheated yet, in fact, it runs quite cool!
The only time it starts to get hot is if it's standing in traffic!
I don't think I'll worry!
Gadget, thanks for the advice, I may have a look at that, I use stuff called Maguirs at the moment, which puts a coating over the top to keep the shine!

Right!
Very polished air cooled engines with fins can cause overheating problems as it changes the surface area of the fins, and makes the air travel over them differently.
My polished crank cases don't actually get that hot, and there's a water jacket in the head and barrel which takes most of the heat away. As long as the engine isn't running lean, it shouldn't overheat.
Bike is going on the rolling road at Taymar Racing soon and he's going to set it all up for me!
Pics and videos to come!
