I WENT TO SEE
As planned I went to see the Red 250/350 LC from facebook. The pictures do make it look much better than it actually is. Unfortunately no paperwork or information for the engine work conversion. It looks really nice until you see through the very good paintwork. Then its a bit tatty. Slightly concerned around the lower of the headstock it may have been welded and ground flat ( tell tale pits showing through powder costing ?) Did manage to start it eventually then it threw loads of fuel out the bottom of exhaust drain hole and when running even after sometime I put my hand near exhaust exit and fuel was dripping off my palm ! ( crankcase full of fuel?) Warmed up and would only slowly return to idle after a minute or so, airleak? Gearbox had little oil in it. Along with possible crankcase loaded with fuel, low gearbox oil and hanging revs (crankseals?) Well worth a look and lady selling was genuine and honest But dont think its for me at 7K !

Also no centre stand, and the pipes had no yamaha markings in them ? Seemed quite good condition but the ends at the baffles where ever so slightly flared? Its been 4 decades since I looked at my exhausts in 1981 but don't remember a small flare on the end. It was uniform so not from 40 years of baffles being removed and replaced I would think ? All fasteners non standard. Not a olive drab screw or bolt to be seen. Chainguard hacked away maybe to accom a larger tyre at one stage. Although rear wheel was cush drive for 350 mod ! Headlight shroud and brackets looked a bit tired; fork stanchions were good no pitting. Scrapes and gravel rash on clock surrounds. Bodywork and tank very nice condition. Wiring looked good, seat was nice. Not a bad machine but a lot of tiding/ engine? work to be done and then might not still be worth the asking price as is now!

This type of bike is the most risky purchase as you really can only guess at what it is and what it isn’t … The least risky purchases are either a totally complete but basket case … everything will need doing… you can price that, or a newly restored bike, with full documentation and ideally a build thread , done by a trusted builder.. those will be strong money but you will absolutely also know what you are getting.
