F2 is stormy red. My painter used an audi red on mine. If you look closely there are little flecks in the paint too

F1 is Stormy Red, same as LC2 and it's a metallic.
F2 is Chappy Red, also used on N2 and it's a solid colour!
Hope this helps!π

I'm a bit confused now, my F2 has the metallic red on the tank and front mudguard But fairing top is solid red!

Not had an F2 so can't say 100% but I was sure the muddies were all solid chappy red. Even the F1 whose bodywork was metallic
Was it not Ford radiant red that was a decent alternative

No Steve, F1 front mudguards were definitely Stormy Red metallic. I bought one brand new from Yamaha back in the day and it's fitted to my LC2 with the F2 front end.
I've also got a brand new F2 Chappy Red mudguard and it's a completely different solid colour!π

Oops......... looks like I was wrong chaps, they did indeed make F2's in Stormy Red/ Silky White! π₯΅ I looked on Fowler's but they don't list the colours so I dug out my old paper copy of the parts catalogue from back in the day. This is for a 1988 F2. I'm pretty sure the '86 models were Chappy Red/ Clean White. Have a look at the pics below and you can see the colours listed. π

Steve, are you on a wind up or what! π€£π€£π€£π€£ F1 was plain Stormy Red, that's why I changed my LC2's Stormy Red/ Silky White one as I didn't like the stripes! ππ Here's the F1 Stormy Red mudguard on my LC2! π

Ah, but there are 2 LC2 schemes
One pearl white with the solid red - 83
The other silky white/stormy red metallic- 84. Same as F1 colours but thinner blue stripe through tail and sides
I do have Covid, I may be delirious π€

No, that was a different LC2 Steve, I sold it after about a year to buy my first car. Apparently the young guy I sold it to went through a fence and wrote it off in less than a week! π© Always missed it though so I bought my '84 LC2 back in 1990! This is the original LC2 you're talking about Steve, this posters on the side of my fridge in the garage! I'm in here at the moment working on my old CB900F with a few swift ones and...... it's a bit chilly!ππ»

Yeah, very nice Steve! That takes me back to my original back in '83.π
Love both schemes but for me the '84 just wins!
But then again....... there is my KR RZ, still the best looking YPVS in my humble opinion! πππ
Get well soon.π·

I think I'm sorted, the tank and mudguard are metallic stormy red and is original paint. The top fairing is solid chappy red whish has a repair and must have been resprayed the wrong colour. I've had the bike over 2 years and only noticed when I took it off for renovation!

Cheers for any Input.

Hi mate,
mines a 84 LC2 and all Yamaha original paintwork. The colours you want are Stormy Red and Silky White, both metallic.
The 83 LC2 was Pearl White and Chappy Red, a pearlescent white and plain red.
Places like RS paints and Colorite can supply the correct paints for you!
Good luck.π

After a bit more digging, It seems chassis numbers 000101-015000 Is a "83" and 015101-025000 Is a "84" So even though mine was registered 03/84 It's actually an 83 (i think!) So pearl white It Is, and whatever red matches Norbo's stickers.

There was a lot of carry over models
A mate had an 84 that was on 85 C plate and I had an 85 reg'd on a D 86
Not just RD's, I had an 84 750 turbo on an 86 D

Just an update on the continuing saga of the colour matching of my F2 stormy red. I took the front mudguard to a paint company who scanned it 3 times to get an average of the colour. The nearest match was an Audi red, but was still not a great match. So I had them mix me 2 custom colour aerosols, one for the mudguard and one for the top fairing. They also supplied white primer and clear lacquer, also satin black for inside the fairing and bottom of mudguard. I'm just in the process of applying the final lacquer coats.
