Yet another this time killing an adult as well as the numerous recent ones on children. So the government are banning the xl bully. When are they going to realise it isn’t the dog it’s the f**kwit owners! I have 4 dogs including two v large ones I’ve owned numerous dogs including bull mastiffs. Never ever had a problem with them they are treated as family members the only time I’ve ever been bitten has been splitting them up during play fighting and then they have been mortified. They are walked on leads when not in the garden etc They aren’t status symbols they don’t make me hard they are well intergrated family members. Previous attempts by government including tagging dogs yes great idea apart from f**kwits will never comply decent dog owners do. The reason fuxkwits buy them is because they are status symbols because they think they are hard, because they use them to intimidate others. I shan’t post my solution but I often think the wrong animal is being euthanised.

Aren't dangerous dogs covered by the 1991 dangerous dogs act??? What a toothless piece of bollix that was..... If something is not implemented, you might as well not bother with legislation in the first place. BUT IT LOOKS GOOD ON THE NEWS AT TEN...............
Jail the f**king abusers/owners for murder...ie LIFE.
Human behaviour of those responsible needs assessing.......but it wont be. It will just be encouraged to proliferate....as usual.

Different countries have different rules, but some require dogs to be muzzled in public. Some have more specific rules.
IF this were adopted everywhere, then the problem goes away? How much hassle is this really? Maybe some existing dogs (but not the ones that have been properly trained, and think about it it’s the ones that haven’t that are a problem) but if trained from puppies there is no problem.
Fine/imprison the f**kers that flaunt the law (based on circumstance).
The more I think about it it’s the same as knives. Fine to have a 6” parting knife on your kitchen worksurface, but not in public.

Dog attack in Brum ...... dog not on lead, previous reports of the dog attacking a woman.
Man killed in staffs .... two dogs not on leads, previous reports of them running wild at shops .
Not hard to see the real issue here, owners not in control at all, some serious jail time need to be handed down to owners who do not control the dogs, of any breed .

I shan’t post my solution but I often think the wrong animal is being euthanised. I've had 3 Staffies over the last 35 years and back in the day they were the dogs that were always in the press. Mine were all brought up correctly and never ever showed the slightest bit of aggression towards any human. My youngest son (in his 30's) now has an XL and is raise his dog in the same way as all our dogs have been, yes they are a very large and strong dog but as Veg says the main issue in down to the idiots who buy\have many of these types of dogs for the wrong reasons that cause all the issues. Maybe the Police/Government need to take stronger action against these individuals. There really needs to be more controls over Breeders and who they sell dogs to whatever breed as quite a few of the most aggressive breeds are actually small (jack Russell, chihuahua), these are never going to do anything like the damage the bigger breeds do but they can easily cause significant damage to a young child.

Don’t understand it
Knife crime is the epidemic not dogs yet nothing is done
If the punishment for have a banned dog is unlimited fine plus some jail time should be the same rule if found carrying a knife with no justification /reason
It just another knee jerk reaction by this shower of sh1t government to pick an easy target rather than deal with the real issues this country faces
Sorry but Rant over
Best wishes Al

Don’t worry about straying from the original post. They are kind of the same considerations. The history of this country is that we have always had gangs and crime. There is a great book on it that talks about the butcher boys using knives to fight the mongers these were apprentice gangs in the 18th century. I’ve done some work with gangs (drugs and firearms operation) and now work within the safeguarding arena. Lots of complex reasons for the upturn, these include massive declines in social networks for kids post school, youth engagement programmes decimated etc etc etc (all down to cost and resources) lack of engagement and parenting from families with their kids, therefore sense of belonging that they get from gangs. Social media influences gang lifestyle is appealing and lack of opportunities for lots of these kids. Couple with glorifying the lifestyle etc then kids carry knives as protection rather than to use them coupled with the average ages of these kids is 14-15 yrs of age they have no real consideration of the consequences and the toxic masculinity perpetuated by social media eg Andrew Tate et al. It’s frightening I’m not attempting to justify it just showing how incredibly complex it is. I can sit here and say my lad wouldn’t and doesn’t carry but he has had strong role models, has a safe place and is educated enough to understand along with an engaged family and opportunities. That doesn’t mean he isn’t at risk of being a victim as he certainly is. Someone really needs to grip this as it isn’t going to get any better any time soon. I don’t have the answers but I do know we are totally letting down our kids and our future.

I think one of the main problems is that there just isn't enough jail space so the courts just won't send then down for carrying a knife or even sometimes for using one. My other son (not the one with the dog) is a magistrate and the amount of people he has to deal with that have 50, 60, 70 previous is unbelievable but all they are able to do is give them another fine which gets put on top of all the others fines they already have which they then pay at a rate of £10 a fortnight. So giving Unlimited fines to these less that desirable people who buy XL's as a statement piece won't make any difference i'm afraid.
