I was after a part today and found CMSNL in the Nederlands can supply the part cheaper than anyone else, however, it struck me that despite them adding vat and payng the usual postage I might have to pay import charges and possibly import tax etc. Has anyone any experience of buying from this company? They seem to have a lot of New Old Stock of all sorts of parts, however, If I have to pay various duties then I might as well get the part elsewhere and from the UK. www.cmsnl.com/

Sorry, daft question - did you try Fowlers in Bristol?
Assuming you are in the UK they tend to have most things and you won’t get stung with import duties.

Also check that they actually have the item. Their stock list has proven to be outdated in my experience, and they don't always have what they reckon they do.

I've purchased a pair of NOS rear footrests about 6 weeks back from CMSNL.
Their P&P can seem quite expensive, but items arrive very quickly, and VAT and import duty was paid at source - nothing to pay in UK.
The order total was around £110 including delivery, and no nasty surprises.
Best plan is to make it worthwhile - i.e. buy more to offset the shipping costs.

Thank you for the replies, the part that I really want is a Ducati part but I also wanted a few minor things as well just to add to the whole package and to do as suggested and make the package bigger and be a better deal, mostly extra fasteners and associated bits etc.
I am guessing however that if the post and packing overall is high it might still be worth getting the things I really want via a UK seller.
It is good to know however that if\when I use them that I won't have any expensive surprises. Thank you.

I've ordered in the past - taken money for parts listed ,and saying available on website. Then get numerous emails saying part is unavailable.... Refund was swift, so can't complain really

Yes, I use them regularly, pretty good for most things, odd time or two delivery has been a bit slow but generally I receive my order within the week.

Yes, they are good to deal with. As someone already mentioned, VAT is included so as long as the total order is less than £135 you should have no duty to pay.

You will not have to pay anything to the delivery company to receive goods worth less than £135 unless they’re gifts over £39 or excise goods (for example, alcohol and tobacco). My experience is that if its around £100 you will usually be OK
In fact coming in from USA I've usually escaped it around £200
The thing is the rules say one thing but customs don't have the staff to do every parcel so if they are going to process one for VAT they tend to pick meaty ones to get the most money out of for the Gov

That reminds me, I had a funny one last week
I'd bought a NOS RGV VJ22 voltage regulator for the TR which I expected to get a VAT bill for (still way cheaper than the £400+ Suzuki wanted)
Watched the tracking, gets to Heathrow, gets processed then 2 weeks pass with no news
I'm deffo expecting a bill. I finally get the dreaded fee card in the post
Looks like someone ticked the wrong box, no vat to pay but an insufficient post charge of £3.50 😀

In my case the single item was £137.66 so I guess it was lucky I did not go ahead and buy the item otherwise I would have been charged duty. Very handy to know what roughly the "cut off" limit is to avoid paying duty.

Good company had a few bits off them when Fowler don't have, fast delivery yes you may get stung by import duties but that's not ther fault, no different from the USA or Japan in that regard

The cut off is £135 for import duty, this is not the same as VAT. Since the dreaded Brexit, companies outside UK should automatically charge you the VAT. Even stuff from AliExpress (China) they charge you the VAT, so unless it is over £135 you have nothing else to pay. www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty

Great company to deal with in my experience. Just make sure you order everything you are needing or might need in one order, otherwise it quickly gets expensive doing multiple orders.
