Shocking news, grand Prix motocrosser to the most successful team owner in superbike racing.
He will be sorely missed.
RIP.

Just read this, quite shocked, died of Liver and "mid area" problems that were incurable. I didn't even realise he had been ill. RIP.

Awful news. He's done a huge amount of good for motor sport.

Awful news. He's done a huge amount of good for motor sport. To some he seemed divisive, but the above cannot be underestimated, he brought a higher level of professionalism to the BSB paddock, which has cascaded down to make the series what it is today. His WSBK and Moto GP teams. His foray into rallying, and his sons racing career. Put his money where his mouth was .

A good and very dedicated man, I have friends who are part of his team, all are truly devastated, from what one has told me he was a hard task master demanding 110% out of everyone but also brilliant to work for, looked after everybody, treated everyone like family. He will be a huge loss in the paddock.

As above I heard the same and I remember Shane Byrne saying he was difficult to work for at times and was sometimes slow at paying him his wages and performance bonuses. He was nevertheless very highly respected and held in great esteem by many and has been a leading light in the BSB series. He is a very sad loss to the sport.
Will the team carry on?

Great tribute for Birdy.
Shame his riders spoiled it a bit .
Sometimes it's better to say nothing.
