"Lemmy asked us to stay for another drink. He apologised and said he was glad he did the interview. He wanted to know more about the German school system. He wrote down a list of books I should read (I lost it) We hugged and got beers and peanuts for the road. I haven't met anyone so smart and selfless ever since"
From a German interviewer.

Motorhead have been a huge influence to me. Overkill was the second album I ever bought and after that there was no turning back. I did see them once at the Hammersmith Odeon (Bomber tour) and I was deaf for 3 days after. Lemmy started out as a roadie for Hawkwind, and when they were gigging in Canada the bass player got arrested for drugs. The band asked Lemmy to play the gig that night, even though he'd never played anything before. Showed him a couple of chords...and the rest is history. He played a Rickenbacker 4400 bass, and it was customised to his own taste. Loads of fakes out there but his was a one off. I'd like to say he started me on my road to bassdom but it was actually Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. He wasn't just a legend. He was THE legend. As Jim Goose said 'larger than life and twice as ugly'.

Dont forget the Rockin Vicars, Lemmy played with them 65 to 67 way before Hawkwind.

Does this mean the Canada gig is a hoax? Dammit.
