Hi guys I’m new to all this and a little clueless. I have just bought what I thought was a mint rd125 but on closer inspection I think it’s going to be a project. My first question is should the clutch cable have an adjuster at the gear box end as the clutch is dragging on mine.

No, the only adjustment is at the lever end. There is a mark on the clutch actuator that lines up with another mark on the casing, check to see if that is correct. Rob

If they do not line up, you have to drain coolant and gear oil, remove the clutch cover and adjust the screw in the middle of the pressure plate.

As they mention above, remove the cable and push the bottom lever to see if its pointed tip lines up with that raised ridge on the crankcase. On a rebuilt one, it needs to stop at the ridge in line. As for your now 'project' . I've been buying and selling these bikes (as classics since 2003) This RD125LC scene, mostly on social media sees the worst standards and dodgy people of any other 2-stroke model. So I urge buyers to ask for receipts on "restored minters", especially for motor and shock rebuilds. A decade ago these bikes were cheap to fix, now they quickly become money pits. You may as well start with boxes of bits and restore them properly with advice on this forum (loads of great tips and exact standards on the 350LC threads on here, also following any Fizzy groups reveals high standards and good tips). This bike still has good quality parts still available abroad. Switzerland, Spain, France, Scandinavia, some of Eastern Europe bikes are still found original If the lower clutch push lever is out of align, or even feels stiff without the cable, I would do a full clutch side rebuild starting from the crank seal (only if the case sealant looks well and crank feels good). With the clutch off you can check the lower lever is not binding. Check the internal rods and that a ball bearing is present. Check the clutch basket for wear (There's a pretend expert on Facebook doing engine rebuilds to a horrible standard on his front lawn, often using worn parts. He used to use washing machine seals to save money until I called him out. No one goes back to him a second time, I mention this as there's a lot of his shoddy work doing the rounds and idiots shilling for him.) I'm now predominantly supplying low mileage parts from Switzerland to help correct previously "restored" facebook and ebay bikes. I used to sell parts on ebay monthly but have enough private contacts who've been getting shafted elsewhere. For some strange reason no one calls out the bodgers and scoundrels selling sh*t and blatant lies with this model.
