Hi all. I'm struggling to get my (USA Import) RD350A to run right. It's a bit boggy, seems to be rich, and splutters / stops on LH pot when warm. It may have the wrong main jet fitted (different altitudes between USA and UK). I've seen 110 in the Haynes book (for YR5), and 140 on other Web sites. What is the correct size for a UK spec bike? How do you tell what size is fitted? TiA

140 if you have an unbaffeled filter, 105 if it’s baffeled .
Um… yet size is stamped on the jet …

It has std air box filter, and baffles in the pipes. BTW, should the baffles have some kind of wadding fitted? There is nowt on them, perhaps a bit lower than I remembered too. Guess this would affect jetting too. TiA

There are two types of air filter that fit these bikes. Later type was fitted half way through 1974 to reduce the noise. Also accompanied the first hight top carbs… anyway, the airfilter has an internal trumpet and is only open on one face. Needless to say, as well as bing quieter it is more restrictive and affects the main jet size… either can be used but you need the smaller jet with the baffled filter. They are also very sensitive to filter type so if you use an aftermarket ‘compatible’ one , expect to need jet changes to make them run at their sweetest.

The air filter is closed at one (fwd) end, and 2 holes at the open end. This caught me out not long after I got the bike, as I checked the filter, but put back wrong way round, and she wouldn't go! So....what you are saying, is I should have 105's for best running? I've not checked what's in them yet, but I do have spare (new) 140's if needed.

Yes, 105s… and don’t worry, you would be the first to wonder why the bike won’t run and then realise the filter wrong way around is causing the air-box to completely blanked !

I've fitted the correct original filter now, and she really moves. The forward face of the lid of the air filter box had also been cut away, presumably to improve air supply, so I returned it back to normal. I've not checked jet sizes yet, will do in winter season. Thanks for the advice.
