I know this has been discussed before but what’s people advise on the best method. My petrol tap keeps getting blocked about every 40mls. Are the kits from Yambits any good?

I would just keep flushing it through. Drain the tank. Remove the tap. Remove the filter off the back of the tap and refit to the tank. Put some fuel in the tank. Blank one tap outlet. Run a fuel line out the other outlet. Run it through a filter, I use kitchen towel in a funnel so I can see the crud coming out. Run until empty. Turn off tap. Refill tank and repeat until no more crud comes out. Drain tank. Remove tap. Refit cleaned filter. Give the bike a try :-)

Have you got the little nylon/plastic filter on the tap still? assume you do as it provides the reserve function.

How much does it take to treat a tank?

From the Bilt Hamber site, 1kg for 20litres. I was doing a car tank that had been left for 10+ years. bilthamber.com/product/deox-c/Don't leave your fuel tap on either, as it will probably react with the alloy body etc

Just go to a local Asian wholesaler or catering supplier and buy citric acid dirt cheap. Also on ebay.

When I sent my tank for paint I drained it down and took the tap off expecting just to send it off and be done with it - it was 100% sound and rust free.
I left it a couple of days to vent fumes and allow any petrol residue to evaporate.
I was really surprised just how much crud there was once it was dried out - plastic, metal, even I think organic particles.
Shaking it, a magnetic bendy grabber then a bendy grabber with sticky tape on the end got it all out eventually.
