Hi I’ve got a running non matching 4L1 hybrid. I was getting ready to start taking out the motor (which I’ll be selling shortly) as I’ve got a 421 going in, in a couple of months. I noticed that, rather than a stamped frame number, its got a tag and looks like an early frame number 4LO 100 123. Any additional value to these older frames? You can just make the frame number out in the photo flic.kr/p/2oH9YmC

That is very early
Should not have tie bars
The vin plate is a Euro thing so not originally UK but it should also have a stamped number

That looks like a Euro 4L1 frame. Should be both stamped and have the aluminium VIN plate. Looks like 4L1 - 000123 to me. Also states 247cc above the number. You should also have a steering lock fitted to other side of the headstock.

Can’t see a frame number in the vicinity of the tab but could be covered by the heavy powder coating Was just wondering whether these frames are sort after or just a cool thing to have an early one? Seems a shame to use this for the 421 if there’s some value (to someone) in an early numbered frame. Just thought I’d ask the question

Only interest/value would be if a complete standard bike with its matching engine
I'd be getting some proper paint stripper onto the powder where the number should be 🫣

Seems perfect for hybrid to me. If it was a UK 4L0 frame with matching cases, then that's another story.

421 it is then! Actually as it’s non tie bar then maybe this probably isn’t a good idea as the frame will likely twist? Thoughts?

Tie bars was added due to stock exhausts cracking due to engine vibration.. If you fitting after market pipes with separate flange fixing it will be fine.

Without the tie bars, the engine actually twists quite a lot. You would only see this on a dyno. The tie bars reduce the twisting.
