Hi Guys,
Im hoping you can help a newb with more stupid questions!!
Whilst rebuilding the clutch on an rd350r YPVS (1995) I’ve tried loosening off the clutch adjuster screw lock nut in the centre of the clutch pressure plate but it will not budge at all. Even when I’ve put the pressure plate over the clutch basket, locked the clutch basket and tried leaning on it as much as I dare it won’t move. The headed pushrod, adjuster screw and locknut are all tightened up together and jiggling about (but won’t rotate) in the centre of the pressure plate.
Is the lock nut right hand threaded as normal. I don’t want to give it too much welly in case I damage the pressure plate.
I suppose a good soak in petrol, wd40 etc will get it moving.
Any advice on freeing it up would be greatfully received.
Cheers
Jim

Sounds Knakered by your description, could you post a picture, i have used a pneumatic air gun with a clutch holding tool usually does the trick for me for the clutch centre nut.

The pressure plate has a hex in the centre to stop the adjuster turning , if you remove the six bolts and springs you can take the pressure plate to a vice to grip the adjuster to slacken the lock nut it may have threadlock on it as it can come loose

Cheers tdrpete and Stusco.
Yes, I’ve attached the clutch basket and tightened up the clutch centre nut. It’s the small lock nut in the centre of the clutch pressure plate that locks the adjuster screw that’s rock solid.
I’ll try the vice and some elbow grease.
Cheers guys,
Jim

A cheap rattle gun from Lidl/Aldi is perfect for this sort of thing. Used mine many times on parts like this, and it saves a lot of potential damage. With adapters, it will whizz off sprocket and clutch nuts too Dusty

Cheers Dusty. I’ll have a look at them and see what I can find. 👍

Maybe the nut has had locktite applied. Nevertheless, I often use a electric diy heat gun on stubborn nuts and bolts. With patience most nuts and bolts loosen.

Thanks for the advice wonkywheel.
I thought I’d have a go with the vice and luckily once I’d managed to stop the pressure plate from spinning the nut cracked off with a bit of effort. No damage caused and even the locknut and threaded adjuster appear to be unmarked.
Result.
Cheers for your help guys.
