Unless you insulate it, it's a waste of time as it will be running in condensation. I heat mine from the central heating in the house but mines attached. Before that I used a thermostatically controlled convection heater.
I filled between the ceiling joists with rockwool and over boarded, celotex dry lining to the external walls and celotex insulation to the back of the garage door. Now it's as warm as the house ;D

I run a dehumidifier in my garage! Boiler is in there so it keeps the chill off!

i got a sealy diesel heater loads cheaper than electric heaters as once you open the door to get stuff in and out most of the heats gone and it take secounds to warm up and i run mine on heating oil

Mine is just stone cold LOL . I had one of thows heaters many years back heating a very big snake tank i used to have. i dont think it would make a lot of heat in something as big as a gararge.

Well im not as privilaged to have a garage but I manage in my 12 1/2 x 6 1/2 foot shed, got no heating, freezing cold. I do have a paraphine heater that I will start using again I think. Plan is over the next month or so to extend, will be around 28 x 6 1/2 foot, should have plenty of room then. Do plan on making a log burner this summer out of an old gas bottle, they give of plenty of heat, free'ish to run. Here is my little love shack:

I use an infrared free standing heater, the sort used for drying panels on newly painted cars etc: got it from machine mart, got little wheels on it so can be moved about easily, costs virtually nothing to run and kicks out tons of heat. It's instant heat too, as soon as it's turned on it's at max temperature (although it can be varied by it's thermostat) as soon as it's turned off you can almost put your hand straight on it. ( if you really wanted too !!) £140.....bargain.

I agree mate!!! one in conservatory n one in lounge ;D Hope you don't smoke in the house with all those petrol fumes floating about. My missus would never let me keep the bike in the lounge it was bad enough yesterday when I put my crank cases and barrels in the dish washer, got a right bollockin as all the crockery now smell of Gunk They don't smell at all (or I'm immune to it) ;D ;D When I've been out on them, I turn the petrol off just before I get home to empty the float bowls and if you keep them pretty much full of petrol they don't really give off any fumes. You soon know though if one of them does develop even the slightest petrol leak. A couple of years ago my YPVS had just the slightest weep from the petrol tap and it stunk the house out ;D ;D ;D And on the subject of the misses "not allowing", well if she's paying the mortgage and bills ALL herself then maybe she can you wot to do in HER house but....... LOL ;D
