One thing you haven’t said is if it’s been adjusted as per guideline? i.e. is the pully currently in the correct position at WOT?

The stroke should be checked and shimmed , if needed. A poorly set up 2t pump can cost a lot of money and even be dangerous, although it does sound like its over oiling.

Also check the pulley isn't sticking on the housing
The pulley can return but not slide back forward so leaves the pump on full stroke

That was really directed at the OP. You’re right though I wouldn’t go adjusting it without the knowledge of exactly how it should all be set up. Jon

I`ve been running Exol Full Synth via pump for 2,500 miles now with no problems , mostly through an Arrow serviced pump (Cheers Gary !).

Is the modern castrol r compatible with changing to fully synthetic? It used to be if you’d used castrol r you needed to purge then cleanse your system as it congealed with newly introduced fully synthetic oil. Don’t know the definitive answer to this though. Arrow probably knows.

Arrow probably knows. Arrow was deliberately trying to avoid this thread! As has been said, many times and not just on here, you can't just go from using Castrol R (which of course isn't a 2t oil) to a regular 2t oil. Regarding the original post, the adjustment shouldn't have changed. What probably has happened is that the check valves have gummed up and stuck open, or perhaps the detergent in the 2t is cleaning all the Castor gunk out of the exhausts, who knows? What is for sure is doing what the OP has done has opened up a can of worms. I've posted before on here about Castor in a road bike and posted pics of all the corroded steel parts in the oil pump.

Think oils evolved for a reason
I'd be stripping, cleaning it out and getting the pump serviced
I'd also prefer unburnt oil residue coming out the back than the residue left by a castor based oil stay in the engine

As yours has only had Castor in for a short time, it will probably be fine.

Bike has been run on castrol r for quite a while by previous owner and bottle was full when I got the bike I’ve done about 40 miles on exol fully synthetic and now noticed the oil deposits on the number plate and rear cowl which were not there before so does that mean the oil pump may well be gummed up and not worth trying to clean it

A salutary lesson and another reason to not be driven to do things cos of the need for a smell you used to like years ago

Pump serviced by Gary = Check Motul or Rock 2T = Check Cable/Pump Set up = Check Running Fine = Check Leave the F*** Alone = Check
Like the old adage goes if it aint broke?

Arrow probably knows. Tried about 10ml of Exol and 10ml of Exol Full Synth in a jar for a couple of weeks. They mixed at first, after a few days noticed they had separated out. No sign of any gunge after a few weeks, no idea what would happen with burnt residue or long term though.

I think the problem with castrol r is it isn’t compatible with modern oils and it’s hydroscopic so attracts/retains water hence Gary talks about the damage. Whether the oils you refer to have the same impact I’m not sure, however I’d imagine that it isn’t good. I know they don’t recommend mixing different oil types no non synthetic with full synthetic. That could be due to them separating or congealing. I love the smell of castrol r but I’ve never used it in any of my modern bikes by that I include my lc’s.

Think my post was not very accurate I have not put any castrol r in the bike never have ,quite the opposite I completely emptied the bottle before I put the exol in so none mixed there ,I think what I should have done is purge the system as has been said but you live and learn so now to take the pump off and have a look again thanks for all the advice 👍

He is an absolute expert on these oil pumps. Lots of us are happy to rebuild most things, however when you have someone like Gary who can strip rebuild replace all parts and set it up to your spec. You’ll have to wait as he is so in demand but get yourself onto the waiting list.

Absolutley you will not be dissapointed with Gary's service, absolutley exceptional, althought you might be dissapointed if you don't. Both my brother and i got our pumps sorted with Gary and it takes all the guess work out of the process plus the bike's run sweet as a nut.
