Just got 2 returned with historic status 3 weeks after dropping off at PO. Only problem was that I tried to register a colour change at same time with one but that was overlooked so need to send v5 off again. Grrr.

Just filled out my V5 to return for colour change and looks like you have to send back the complete form for colour change, not just half of it as for taxation change, so that probably why they didn't process colour change at same time. Here we go again, clock starts again .......

Went down to the post office this morning
Registered 31/05/83 so just 40 years old
V5 doc and V112 exception filled out
Only query she had was whether I needed anything changed on the v5
Last 12 months tax for it paid
Happy days, will be back down next year to change to historic 😃

Just took my 1982 V5 to post office and they scanned it and I signed it and all went through OK but I also had another V5 I thought I would change and this was for a 1980 bike, but just the frame Her computer was saying not to do it as it said i need an mot ! And I couldn't get any further So I haven't a clue where To go from here It was ever only a frame which I had to get a logbook for on the frame number, then I sorned it Does the frame need to be built into an actual bike to proceed ? Tonight just looked at the frame only to see what it said on DVLA online and put details in to tax it and it flagged up mot exempt but it wanted me to tax it ,all though it's a W reg. So post office is saying they need an mot but dvla online says no

No mot needed, 40 years old mot not needed, the April after it's 40, no tax needed to pay for.
These are the basics, but dealing with the DVLA and some at the post office who don't know the rules makes it very very difficult, just keep trying, above is how it's set out, it will work.
