I have a Suzuki swingarm fitted to my restomod 89rz and I’m wondering if anyone has tried to put a 5.5 rim and 170 tire on it? It looks like it will fit although I’m thinking either space out the side cover out or a hydraulic clutch conversion may be needed with an offset sprocket?

Hi, i really wouldn't, standard tyre size for a VJ22 is 150, a 170 may well fit the swingarm, but i think you will have a very difficult time sorting chain alignment for one.
Also if you are planning fitting a 170 to a VJ22 wheel that is going to make the handling 'interesting' to say the least! I had a bike which had oversized tyres on once and it was like riding around with a puncture, awful!
If you are not planning to ride the bike, then no probs!

Think 160 is as far as you can go
The issue is not the wheel/tyre fitting in the arm but the chain run not wanting to go through the frame

I did the same as midlife as well.
Aren't 170 tyres difficult to get now?

Think 160 is as far as you can go The issue is not the wheel/tyre fitting in the arm but the chain run not wanting to go through the frame Steve [ So this is really my main concern, I have a 5.5” Suzuki rim with a modified gs500 sprocket carrier that has been machined back towards the wheel. It is basically a common modification to allow using the wider rim on a sv650 track bike and seeing as I have a sv650 rim on there now I assumed it would be possible. The bike has a heavily gusseted frame, Penske race shock and valved r6 front end and I realize the benefits of a narrower tire but I’m really used to running wider rims with the smallest possible tire on my Supermoto bikes (5” rim/150 tires) and seems to work a lot better for fast street hustling as there is less lean angle (flatter profile) and a huge footprint. Going from the 160 tire/SV 4.5” rim on the bike currently to a 170 would 10mm or roughly 3/8” but ya the frame made need some help is my main concern

You are going to have to spread the frame and use a large offset front sprocket
I'm on a 9mm offset

A 170 should fit on a 5.5 inch rim I think it was a standard size for the TZ250 5ke.

My RGV500 has an RGV250 braced swing arm and a TZ250 4YL 5" rim with a 170 tyre. It did fit but won't go all the way forward on the adjusters. The problem though is 170 tyres are very limited and you can get better, grippier tyres in 160 which will fit either the 4.5" RGV rim or an alternative 5" rim. If you go 5.5" rim then going to 180 would be a better option and sorting out the chain run
