Been looking for a new project for a while now to no avail. Now technically it's not a bike but will undoubtedly share the same characteristics as a rebuild. It needs a huge amount of work which will no doubt turn up many unexpected issues which haven't been budgeted for and will take far longer to put right than expected !! So, if it's not a bike ,what might it be, well, it's a house but the last two letters of the postcode are RD !! Looked at a few saw the postcode, viewed it and made an offer !! Just in the process of going through all the crap that you have to go through to purchase it these days. Just needs a new roof, (rather large hole in it) bathroom, (hole in the roof decimated the bathroom) windows will fall out if you farted in the same room ! needs a new central heating system, (it's been condemned and the gas cut off) electrics need ripping out and replacing, kitchen is original 1960's and certainly looks like its 60 years old !! It has a conservatory but can't see it due to it being covered in ivy on the outside and full of crap on the inside. Only know it's there as it's shown on the plans. Maybe enough room for a couple more bikes. lol !! So why did I want to buy it, well apart from the postcode it was the double garage and car port, enough room at least 8/9 bikes possibly more, only time will tell !! Once I've replaced the roof that has fallen through which is asbestos !!
Wish me luck, I'm certainly going to need it |!!

Oh dear, you have my sympathy. Bought a detached 2 bed cottage with land in 2016, took 2 1/2 for planning to get through, had to move out as soon as work started as we went from 2 beds to 4 and no part was untouched. As soon as the main demolition finished wife had a mega contract pulled. So we were stuck in rented with a near demolished house and a mortgage. It has taken us years the house is finally finished the driveway, garages, car port etc isn’t. It’s cost us twice as much as we budgeted for, taken 3x as long. It’s stunning it’s our design and I’m happy but it’s d never do it again. So I’m looking forward to your journey. Good luck. 👍

Ohh sounds great! Do you have pics?
We're going to enjoy the before n after pics of this one I reckon. ripping off the ivy and clearing the place out will make a huge difference. Recently I watched The Pethericks on youtube buy an old convent in France and do that tidying to an overgrown courtyard and it came out amazing. It looked so bad to start with and in a few days you could see how it was going to come out and well worth the effort etc.

We bought the garage I have now in 2015. It's a 3 car garage with a pitched roof so there is loads of storage space. It was listed as a large garage/workshop. It came with a house and garden we bought.

So you will be all good for digging the footings at least! Hope your brother is in remission.

Good luck with it, I guess its going to be very demanding and enjoyable at different points. We've recently bought a plot and going through planning at the moment, so also have a house build project lined up. I'm just finishing off my 250LC latest project, and will put the next on hold until we have sorted the house, so expecting a 2 year dint in my bike build life. I'm sure it will fill my time though.

Having just finished my LC project of 14 years I thought I might try something a little different. Long story short my mum is currently living with me and I've started a new job in Rotherham which is a 75 mile commute each way and costing a fortune in fuel. Mum wants to stay where she is- in my house and I have to find somewhere else to live !! So found a house 20 minutes from work and if you watch enough property programmes you'll know to buy the worst house on the estate which I have certainly done, well not exactly purchased it yet but well on the way, hopefully ! Once I've finally got the keys I might consider the enormity of the task ahead with some trepidation and maybe some excitement as it will be mine and mortgage free. This is the second house I've tried to buy the first one falling through a week before completion when the solicitors informed me that the very large kitchen/dinning room extension didn't have planning permission and the surveyor said it didn't come anywhere near to complying to building regs !! £2000 wasted in solicitors fee's there then ! Very like a bike rebuild I've been pricing up everything I need to do and factoring in everything I think I can't live without. After that the fun starts and the funds start to disappear at a frightening rate depending on the finish I go for. As it will be mine and mine alone I'm going to have it exactly as I want and have enough to get the essentials being the roof, windows and electrics sorted. After that I'll see what's left in the kitty and see where we go. Been looking at the central heating which I'm pretty sure I'll get carried away with as I've seem some stunning radiators, not your average white ones but refurbished vintage ones in a copper colour and I'm thinking a bright orange one for the bathroom. Once I can sleep in it, the house not the bathroom, I can start saving for bathroom, kitchen ect. I can get showered at work and lucky enough to get fed at work. Funny story there, I was a Chef for 40 years in a very successful restaurant and the Chef from my main competition a few miles away is now the Chef at the school where I work so the food is exceptional and 3 meals a day means I can save quite a lot each month OR drink more beer !! Obviously the very first thing will be to get the garage roof sorted so I can get the bikes in. Got to get your priorities right, bikes come first !! LOL!! I'll take some before and after pictures and post them on here if anyone is interested and expect initial progress to be swift but then slowing down to a steady pace while saving for the next stage, not too much unlike rebuilding a bike, you look ant the shinny go faster bits then check your bank balance and either settle for what you can afford or save up the difference. Well I'm sat in the living room with mum opposite who has just informed me that she is going to bed then proceeded to walk up stairs farting every and I mean every step of the way till she is in the bathroom !! Really hope this house purchase completes soon and does actually complete this time, don't think I want to listen or can take mum farting every time she goes up stairs !! Once the roof and windows are sorted I'll obviously be looking for the next bike project, I've enough spares left over from the last build to more or less (probably a lot less than I think I have as most of us do once one build is over and we have to justify the next project to ourselves ) make another bike if I can find a frame !!
