I have just put my notice at work and will finish 31.3.23. It feels fantastic. Ive been a lift and crane/power press inspector for 35 years and the companies i worked for and their management have changed massively. It takes more time to fill out generic and residual risk assessments and sit site inductions than it actually takes to inspect a lift or crane. I'm glad to be out of it. Working for insurance companies usually comes with a FS pension, so I'm one of the lucky ones.

After over 40 years in the IT world I’m winding down by the end of this year.
Cannot wait to be out of the corporate world. It used to be fun from time to time, now it’s just grey, penny pinching drudgery
No gold clock, no FS pension, but I reckon I’ve enough to maintain a decent standard of living.

My Mrs had a "FS" pension scheme, she was supposed to retire several yrs ago but it went tits up. It was FS....maybe my understanding of "FS" is somewhat different..

Good on you chrisg 👍 Like geoffers997 I have been an IT guy for most of my career (30 years with the same company) and I am now bored of corporate life and more recently bloody “Agile” working practices! My FS pension got frozen several years ago but I do plan to retire in 4 years and perhaps do some volunteering, just to keep busy when I am not fettling in the garage. 😉

Nice one pal, enjoy. I've been retired a month and I've yet to have a day off, work that out.

I saw the writing on the wall with that BS in the early 2000s and got out soon after and changed career, my Mrs has taken redundancy cos of it as well, she finished this monday. She might find something else, but we'll see. * f'in ridiculous... For any old school IT person involved, goes against most of what you know is good practice.

That's nice, I expect you might possibly have one or two aspects you will miss but you will soon forget them once away from it. I bet March flies even though you would think not. 👍

Enjoy your retirement. I had a kind of short term retirement last summer. The company I worked for went tits up at the start of my three week bike trip around Spain in June. I was made redundant, got three months lieu of notice and a new company bought the intellectual rights and started up and asked me if I wanted a job. Couldn't have planned it better myself. Now I'm just looking forward to quitting for good in a year or so (depends what the Mrs decides).
