Not a bike, but another dog ! Lulu was found abandoned on the streets in Buckinghamshire, emaciated, starving, and with a horrible ear infection. Scars on her face, tears in her ears, and what look like cigarette burns on her body. An employee at the council dog pound rang a friend of hers who fosters dogs when possible, and Lulu was fostered on the very day she was due to be put to sleep. 5 weeks later, my wife observed the foster mum trying to entice Lulu out the back of her car for her first walk in Windsor Great Park. A conversation started, telephone numbers exchanged. My daughter bought her first home last year, and has wanted a rescue dog for as long as I can remember. It was very much right place, right time, and Lulu has been with her a week now; 329164727_498213255593250_6561849225381071355_n by dusty miller, on Flickr Never had a Lurcher before but I've got to say what a lovely breed they are. This is the most loving, laid back dog ever. How anyone could be so horrible to such a sweet natured dog is beyond me. Needless to say, her life is gonna be full of love and affection from now on. She has even been accepted by my 2 spanners !! 329207067_6185995784752440_1950419839308218039_n by dusty miller, on Flickr

What a wonderful thing to happen. It amazes me how cruel some people can be but that pup will now have a fantastic life.

Fantastic, lovely to know whatever mistreatment she's had previously is all behind her, and she will now have a loving family around her, and playmates.

Good on your daughter, Dusty. A beautiful dog and a happy ending to a sad story. How can people be so cruel? All my dogs come from the pound, and so far all have had some hound in them... great natured dogs.

Good on you, your wife and your daughter. Lulu looks so happy and content π€
We all love a nice animal rescue story and I have never regretted giving our Reggie the c**kapoo a new home π

The lady and her husband who fostered Lulu are the heroes here. They spent a small fortune of their own money getting her healthy - vets bills, special food, medicated baths for her sore skin - everything. 2 of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever meet, and they are preparing to do it all over again with the next dog - another Lurcher who has terrible scars on it's muzzle - The Vet thinks they come from being hit with a belt or strap When the lamping season finishes, or a dog is no longer useful for hunting, they are cast onto the streets to meet their fate. The foster Mum used to volunteer at our local RSPCA, and at least 20 dogs a day were put to sleep - all the dog charities are the same sadly. The Dog programmes on the Tv - "Paul O Grady", "In the Dog house" etc present a picture that is far from reality, and the sad cases far outweigh the happy ones Dusty

Thats really sad but a happy end. Im sure she will settle in, in time. People like that should be banned from keeping any pet, once theve been strapped witb a leather belt.

So, nearly 3 weeks in now and Lulu is living the dream !! Just had a long weekend in the New Forest. Seen the sea for the first time we believe, and had an absolute ball on the sand chasing my 2 spanners, although she didn't know what to make of the tide going in and out Lots of walks in the forest, lots of fuss in the various pubs we went in too. She is an absolute delight - so well behaved and easy to have around. We are in touch with her foster Mum and Dad, and they sent us a couple of pics of the day they got her from the council pound - hours before she was due to be put down; IMG-20230220-WA0004 by dusty miller, on Flickr IMG-20230220-WA0003 by dusty miller, on Flickr Hard to believe it's the same dog really. And amazing that she seems to love all the humans that she meets, especially after the way she has been treated by some of them 20230219_085919 by dusty miller, on Flickr
