I’ve got some old Yamaha DT plastic side panels that have been half painted and I want to get the paint off without melting the plastic underneath. So I’m not gonna use paint stripper. Anyone got any ideas ? I’ve scraped some off so far and I’m about to use some petrol to see if it will lift the undercoat and paint. Can anyone recommend a tried n tested solution? Advice greatly appreciated, Thanks

DO NOT USE PETROL - as above it’ll potentially melt the plastic, it will warp them at the least.

Yep, sand it off. Use finer and finer grain wet and dry until you get a smooth finish.

You might be better off spraying them or getting them done in Cerakote.

Please never never use petrol for cleaning anything... it is extremely volatile. The fumes alone can ignite and its like a bomb going off. you don't need a flame to set it off. Keep yourself safe.

if you are careful enough you can use a heat gun to peel it off or some Nitromors paint stripper which i have use before on plastic without any issues

If they aren’t too big pop them in the freezer, often once frozen the paint reacts differently to the plastic and it’ll snap off done it to a couple of items.
