Hi
I've just taken a look in both Mikuni 28mm carbs on a 250LC race bike and they have 400 main jets in? Which in my mind are huge! I'm thinking 280 as a starting point on the dyno next week. Motor is standard. The pipes are a kind of TZ chop. Running no filters or airbox.
Anybody think 280 is too low?

How does it run with the 400's?
Have you tried it on a dyno?
I have a tuned 350YPVS with 31k carbs, pod filters and pipes and that is on 380's so i would say 280's are too small especially with no airbox. But i'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along soon.

Im sure i had 380 on my tuned 350 ypvs with pods and expansions before i changed to pwk

All I can say is that it starts and there is a lot of smoke. I'll start it with those then and work back!

On the standard type RD carbs, 400's are not that big for a highly tuned bike. 280's would be asking for trouble.
Once you get into the 400 territory the standard carbs tend to react less sensitive to jet sizes. So you can go up or down a few sizes for less effect.
I can't comment on the VM 28 carbs, but they must be similar.
