Replaced what was my original fuel tap with a eBay special kit that leaked immediately (worse than the original) bought one of Norbo’s which not only looked better made but worked perfectly for 4 weeks. Came home from a trip to Ireland yesterday to find a full tank of Shell’s finest E5 all over the garage floor (and probably filled the crankcases as well I’m guessing). I’ve decided to fit a simple inline tap and abandon the vacuum system but just wondered if ethanol is a cause of failure. My friend with a KR1S is having exactly the same problem?

Should have said I used rebuild kits, not new or replacement taps

The diaphragm may not be compatible with the fuel you used. Try using Esso Supreme 99+ as that is supposed to be the only fuel with no ethanol that is easily available.

That’s not good I did mine with the same rebuild kit it’s been ok so far , the problem in my part of the country is that the esso supreme has 5 percent ethanol as well So far I’ve not had any leaks but will keep an eye on it . If it leaks again I’ll also change to a simple inline tap

That looks a good mod, my tap only has 1 outlet and a vacuum outlet, do you use the 2 outlets so one goes to each carb? Obviously I would block off the carb vacuum spigot. Thanks for your help with this. I just worry the tap will one day let go and flood the engine, if that's possible of course.

I had issues with the fuel tap on my F2 when I first got it. I tried the repair kits and found them to be a waste of time and money, so I ended up buying a brand new one from Fowlers, which wasn't cheap but it works. If you are looking for an alternative solution with an on-off-reserve function, I've seen this item on ebay but it's even more expensive. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124811118661?hash=item1d0f528845:g:~LMAAOSwB3ZcmxDC

I reckon the RD400 tap might work just waiting for a bit more info from 84rzrider about the take offs. I am after a tap that shuts off as the bike will only do a few hundred miles a year and will sit around......last thing I want is a crank filed up with juice if all goes pear shaped.

My budget solution which I am trialing was to buy a simple 6mm on/off tap and fitted it inline with the original tap. So far it seems to work well, though it does mean I don't have a reserve so have to make sure I reset the trip meter. It cost £4.95 from Ebay The fit is temporary in the pic as I wanted to keep the original fuel line length in case this didn't work. I can trim that line to hide the new tap a bit better.

You can get a Japanese spec fuel petc**k that is not a vacuum petc**k for the RD/RZ350 that looks just the same and fits right in place . Not cheap. I paid 145.00 US for mine.

I use two outlets. I have VM30s on my RZ so no need to block anything. You can put a cap on the vacuum port and all will be well.
