Very nice I do like them 890s, got a KTM 1290 superduke the Gen 3 model thinking of downsizing for a 890 I'd definitely try one to see if you like it, they really are mega to ride, more than enough power for the road, feel so light, and handle brilliantly. Even though it's a parallel twin, it's crank phasing makes it sound and feel like a V, reminds a lot of my old MK1 superduke.

I've now got my replacement for the 890R that was thieved off me before Christmas, I still miss that bike so badly, I loved it, because I couldn't ignore the deal (and honestly because the 2022 R looks boring) I bought the 890GP, It's already had a few mods but I've got it booked into Maxton for fully adjustable fork cartridges and rear shock and I also have all the brembo bits that come on an R. Looks well smart in that colour, will agree the blue 22 on R is not a good looking bike

I love the orange, but one question, why does it have what looks like a 'grab rail' when there is no provision for a pillion?

They come without pillion pegs ,grab rail and rear seat on the R , all that comes in a extra box .
Normal 890 has those bits fitted .
GP is a mixture of the above , grab rail is fitted along with the pillion pegs and seat cover , suspect the passenger seat is also in a box
Shady dealers in the state's, and other places were delivering the new bikes , less the spares box, and flogging those bits separately.

The R I had the full akra system fitted same as this, it was delivered fitted but came with the exhaust fitted and it also came with the bracket that replaces the footrests, this one didn't and it had the rear footrests fitted, caught me out as I had to order the bracket, the grab rail and the footrests have now been removed.
It was stupid cheap in the original spec, I paid £8200 for it as a stock bike and with all the extras fitted it was still cheaper than an R, about the only thing I'm not mad about and I may do something about yet is that the orange on the mudgaurd and tank are Matt while all the other orange is very gloss, might grow on me but seems a bit wrong.

That's an absolute steal at that price.
Is the suspension on the GP same as the stock 890 ? Brakes look the same , and not the R styleema's

Yes on both, its basically a stock 890 with different tyres. Ihave all the brake parts to make it an R

I had a 990 SDR, then a MK1 & MK2 1290 SDR. Fantastic bikes & I got the bug a year & a half ago for another super naked so went Red this time. The 890 is a peach of a bike.. SDR by KTM Marky, on Flickr 25th June 22 by KTM Marky, on Flickr

Lovely bikes .
I really rated my 990 superduke back in mid 00's, the 890R reminds me a lot of that bike .

Lovely bikes . I really rated my 990 superduke back in mid 00's, the 890R reminds me a lot of that bike . The 1290 SDR is a fantastic bike. The SFV4S keeps going where the SDR simply ran out of revs & Christ it is quick! I think when I decide I just can't hang on to the Ducati any more I'd go 890R.

One thing I really dislike about the ktm is the footpegs, horrible rubber topped things that offer very little grip, and my foot keeps slipping off them on a regular basis, really not good. So today i swapped them out for a set from a Husky Vitpillin, which are knurled so should hopefully offer a lot more grip.

Modern bikes all seem to have very light clutch levers, and this ktm is no different, but you can get an upgrade, basically a longer actuator arm, which makes it unbelievably one finger light, so fitted one, and it is Could do with similar for the LC, which is like concrete in comparison.

Last service at KTM before the short warranty expires yesterday.
Basically the same as the 600 mile running in service, so oil and filter change and a check over, pretty basic stuff.
£250
Unless something fails or falls off before next January, the bike won't see the inside of the dealer again, had to point out that previously the oil was over filled, and the chain was the tensioned like a bow string. These bikes run a longer than normal swing arm, so the chain is looser than you'd normally expect, and it really affects the quickshifter operation if it's over tensioned, and ktms instructions as to correctly set it, is not particularly clear, as I've got it spot on now, I made sure to inform the tech not to touch it this time.

Getting pissed off now, went to go for a ride, and discovered yet another un reparable rear puncture, now on my third rear in less than 1600 miles . Bloody expensive at £220 a go

gave up on those tyres when I had a rear blowout at 110mph, turned out to be one of those cheap double ended spanners you used to get in a suzuki tool kit, anyway, put the shits up me. Just finished putting the Brembos on mine and its just come back from Maxton having had fully adjustable suspension front and rear and it is utterly fabulous now. KTM890GP by ANDREW FRANCHI, on Flickr Talking about weird ideas with the paint like you did earlier in the post, my gp is gloss paint on the back and matt at the front, I'm currently collecting parts to paint the rest gloss, what a daft idea though. Anyway I'm nearly finished. What did you do with your old mirrors by the way Rigga? Andy

Stored them in the shed, along with the other OE parts, should I decide to sell the bike and revert it to standard.

Fair do's, prefer stock levers myself and need a set of Mirrors as the originals aren't right now on the R lever and m/cyl mounts.
