Well ive had my CCM spitfire FT6 for just under a year ....and not really gelled with it. Several reasons, but main one is, its a tall bike for me, and didnt quite feel comfortable. CCM wouldn't sell me the 17" wheels from the upcoming street moto (another variation on basically the same bike) although when I spoke to Ben Clews at the nec bike show, he said he'd sort it .... but would sell me a set of 17" Dymags, tyres, shorter sidestand, and various bits, which would lower the bike enough, but its costly (2.5k) I kinda accepted that in order to be able to use it comfortably, id need to do something, so put my name down for a set. Then a day or so later, i thought, f**k it, for that money I could get a brand new bike instead. So today was delivered a spanking new KTM Duke 890R and the CCM has gone Need to run it in when the weather improves, tyres are like cut slicks, and looking forward to trying all the electric gizmos on it, quick shifter and blipper, traction control and even launch control. Still a tall bike, but I can flat foot one of them.

Love it, really nice! I have those Michelins on my 900 Monster and they are fantastic, not sure i'd want to ride on them in the wet though!

I've had one since they came out, its by far the most me thing I've ever owned, I love it and its just mental, the lean angles you can achieve are something else and the grip off those tyres are just wow, you'll love that. IMG_1095 by ANDREW FRANCHI, on Flickr Andy

Lovely bike, I've got the 1290GT which I tour on but its really a comfortable sports bike, every bit as quick as any I've owned in the past, handles very well and creates many smiles per mile. 20200827_124014 by Rob Bennett, on Flickr 20210924_111800 by Rob Bennett, on Flickr

I've already purchased some bits for mine, tail tidy certainly, has that thing hanging out in the breeze has to go, and a Ixil m2 slip on can, short and deep sound from video clips I've seen. Seems we like similar bikes, dukes, buells and of course smelly old 2 strokes.

Hard to beat that new bike feeling, KTM have some funky looking styling and are great fun to ride.
I should have maybe got one rather than the pile of shite 1200 Speed Triple RS I bought in September...

That is a miles better looking bike than the CCM, I have never really got what people see in them and the prices are stupid.

I did read about your issues on PH, surprised really, as an ex speed triple owner, I always thought they were immune from niggles, as others have the same issue as yours. Mate raves about his Street 765rs, that was a contender for me too.

Styling wise I thought they were lovely, some really nice attention to detail, all the machined parts made it stand out for me. Trouble is, looking great as an ornament is not much use all of the time.

nice KTM
I wanted to get one of those CCM's and put a big bore (500+cc) 2 stroke engine in it, reckon it would be a right tool/giggle ! - alas, too many other things on the go at the moment to even consider it, but I can dream for now !

Yes we do which is weird as your struggling to reach the floor and I'm 6' 6", to be honest I had reservations about a parallel twin but having done 10k now on this I'm amazed at its power delivery, now wish I'd tried one years ago, also amazing is how it fits you and me, its not a small bike, for instance my Ducati gt1000 is miles more cramped, these Austrians can certainly build bikes. Enjoy it pal.

Mate raves about his Street 765rs, that was a contender for me too. Yours would have been built in Hinckley mate and as you say, are pretty solid bits of kit. The newer models from 2021 were ALL built in Malaysia and elsewhere, the dealer admitted they are not built to the same standard as the Hinckley bikes and take longer to PDI/set up etc but the new models electrics are very sensitive and the bike seems to be plagued with electrical issues. Ive heard from 4 owners off PH alone who have had issues with their 1200s, 2 (inc me) out of the 4 opted for a refund. My brothers brand new Rocket 3, picked up a week after my bike, also broke down 3 weeks into his ownership. Ive heard from Triumph this morning and hope to have my refund anyday now, I can speak a bit more about events after that .

When I asked where my 2014 speed triple and 2016 1050 tiger were made Triumph said they couldn't tell me as they were a world manufacturer and no one was interested so I started buying bikes from anywhere again and joined in with the non carers. The speed triple was a lovely bike but the fueling was always shit, I actually had the fuel consumption down to 85 miles to a tank and that wasn't on a track day, the tiger was the opposite and the fueling was great, both bikes were bullet proof.
Shame the 1200 isn't great, I fancied one.

Sigh...I guess the price of progress is that a UK manufacturer has to make abroad... like Dyson, whos products also suffer when not made in the UK.
Triumph banged on quite a bit that they had invested a lot in the factory in Malaysia on their tour in 2018 and that the quality was the same as the UK bikes... methought they did protest too much at the time and I considered that Id be wanting one made in the UK. I did ask about which models were UK made and it was easy to work it out at the time. I mean, I'd not want a non Austrian (Indian) KTM (390 etc) any more than I'd want a non uk made Triumph... sometimes there is value to the customer in where a product is made.

Had my 790 Duke nearly 4 years now... Mine has had zero issues, some are plagued with minor sprocket seal and coolant leaks.... The 790s had iffy low speed fuelling issues, but I got my ECU remapped by junction 33.... Best mod ... I've had many bikes but the 790 is the best I've ever had.... It's so light and fits me like a glove... With my 350 LC and rd400 never selling... Mine was one of the first in the country

Lots of manufacturing now is away from home country's, and moved to the far east for obviously economic reasons, plus getting a foothold into the massive Asian market for bikes, and let's face it, the use of bikes in this country is basically for leasure purposes, over in Asia, its essential transport, market a bike there, and its a big earner. KTM themselves do it, lots of bike's made in China now, as part of the deal involves a foothold into that market. I did wonder about the Dukes build quality because of this, as this model is built over there, but some research revealed the bikes are for that market, India, china etc, North America and Europe bikes are still built at the Austrian plant, VB at the start of the chassis number denotes Austria. I think Triumph will regret moving manufacturing at some point, unless they can get a grip on quality control, reliability reputation issue's are hard to shake off once noted.

Plenty of time playing in the garage while its crap riding weather outside. Disliked the standard number plate hanger, sticks out too far for my liking, so thats gone, replaced with a JTech item off eBay, plug and play wiring, and under £50 Next the exhaust, which is actually better looking close up than in pictures, curves nicely to follow the shape of the tail ...nit its too quiet, so after lots of search on YouTube vids, I settled on a Ixrace black short can, has two DB killers as standard, left the one in the can out, and it sounds very nice, not antisocial, but a deep tone, almost v twin in note, and I think thats down to the crank spacing on this parallel twin, I like it. Added some spacers to the ride by wire throttle to eliminate the play, which is annoying even when brand new, nice and tight action now Bar end mirrors fitted instead of the big standard ones. Thats it ....just nice weather needed.

Good choice of endcan.... I've also got the ixil and chop and change between it and standard when I fancy a change.... This sprocket cover is good.... Easier to keep the crud clean, and you can keep your eye on the infamous seal leak, although mine has been all good

I actually ordered a silver version, but was told it would take weeks to come from Spain (I think), but the guy had a black one on the shelf I could have if I wanted one quicker, and pleasantly surprised it came with the carbon shield, as the silver one didnt look like it had one.

Something else ive added today. The front of the bike around the dash area looks unfinished, the lines of the wacky headlight just stop, and then lots of nooks and crannies to attract road crap. So there's a guy in Germany who 3d prints a cover, which cleans this area up, and adds a bit of protection to the expense dash So standard And new part fitted
