Hello everyone! Brand new to LC Forum, just came into possession of a 1982 RD350LC, very excited to get this thing running! In the process of carb clean/rebuild (isn't ethanol wonderful?) Noticed Pilot jet = 22.5 (stock, I think), Main jet = 200 (stock s/b 220?) Bike is very stock: std air cleaner set up, standard exhaust (needs replacing) Should I leave in the 200 Main? Or go back to 220? Just trying to save myself a step; I'm familiar with jetting basics once I get her running. Thanks in advance for any help/advice! YankSmoker

Hi Welcome to the forum, and Lc ownership If the bike is all stock, I would start with stock jetting. If you are cleaning the carbs, definitely remove the brass balls and make sure the drilling behind isn't blocked - squirt some carb cleaner or Wd40 in the hole - it should drain away if it's clear. Loads of info on the forum on that - the Search function is a great resource Any problems - shout out - lots of friendly help here Dusty

20200101_161003 by dusty miller, on Flickr That's an Rd400 carb, but removal and cleaning behind the brass ball (4.5mm) is the same as an Lc carb. Dusty

Great info guys! Thanks! How'd you get the ball out? small drill halfway into the ball and then use the drillbit to twist/pull ball out. Often guys tap passage and replace with a grub screw after cleaning. Or you can replace ball or even just carefully use epoxy

OK, careful drilling required there! "Grub screw" = set screw? (translation into American :-)) That sounds like the best way, epoxy sounds a little permanent!

Dont drill all the way through the ball and you can re use it. Or ebay - 4.5mm brass balls - pack of 10 cost a few quid/bucks Dusty

I’ve used epoxy and had the balls out a couple of times over the years. So not permanent in my case. Just stick the drill bit in the hole and wiggle and the seal was broken.

Hi guys! So I did the "Balls out" rework cleaning trick with the grub screw install - it went really well, thanks to the info on this site. I was scared sh*tless drilling the ball in the carb body, then the tapping for the screws, but it went fine, and spinning out the ball using the drill worked surprisingly well. Looking forward to firing this guy up! Thanks for the help! Yanksmoker

And she's a runner! Runs pretty good, even! I've even taken it out on a test ride - pretty cool, every things seems to work, even the turn signals blink (kinda). Will post a pic or two when I figure it out..... Thanks for all the help, guys! YankSmoker
